I would never see another one of these films after the mess of the second movie, but have been forced to watch them since my son insists on seeing them. I will say that this one is much better then the 2nd or 3rd ones, but of course they were so ****** that it's not saying much. As soon as I went in and saw that this was like 2.5 hrs long I knew I was in trouble.....saying that though this wasn't all that bad, it was too long imo and it was all over the map with scenes and sections of the movie that made me scratch my head thinking wth was that.

I only fell asleep once during the flick, which is way less than the other 2 earlier versions.....

I'm a big Transformers fan, I don't like the movies, but I'm glad people are supporting it. I feel Bay has help revitalized the Transformer franchise with the movies and got people interested in the toys and the cartoons again. I don't think there would have been a successful live action Transformers movie if Bay didn't do it, but now that he has paved the path, I hope someone else takes over for TF5 and finally do it right.
The best Transformers toys ever made are being made right now in my opinion--the Masterpiece line. If that is a function of renewed interest in the line due, in part, to the movies, then I'm thrilled that the movies exist and also totally am glad some folks are into them even though I've never been able to really enjoy them.

I have not seen it but as some stated earlier the potential for greatness is there, but just not brought about. . .Remember folks by now you should know what a M Bay film is all about.
I don't see there as being a great deal of potential though, with this director and writer on board. For the reason you point out--these guys do a certain thing, and they do it effectively. There's no real reason to expect another film by them to be any better than the previous ones IMO, except maybe in some fairly minor ways (i.e., a little less racist humor, no Shia LeBouf, etc.). The general concept of the films has potential, but it's never going to be realized with Bay and Kruger at the helm unless something really out of left field happens. This isn't like a Sam Raimi scenario, where you'll get great movies, good movies, and meh movies interspersed over the course of his career. It's one trick, over and over. And I'm not upset about it at this point. I've accepted that these films are what they are. And geek movies are being made for people like me to enjoy (like Days of Future Past and Winter Soldier), so I say, let's allow fans of this kind of movie to have their franchise. I've still got the old cartoons if I ever want to watch a Transformers story I care about.

I hear How to train your dragon was one of the best movies of the year?

possibly one of the best animations of all time?

It is indeed,
How To Train Your Dragon 2, is one of if not the best CG animated movie I've seen.
It's a work of art and I don't use that term lightly.

If Nolan did Transformers I wonder how it would be

They are, I couldn't resist a few of them myself. Masterpiece Grimlock, Prowl and Soundwave are just brilliant.

For what it's worth.. I own the first film - it's got enough 'good' in it for me to want a copy.

That said, I fell asleep through the 2nd one way back when, & have no interest in the 3rd - or this new one.

Like others have said though, the MP collectors line of figures is one excellent legacy of these diahrrea fests - so yay. :lol

Would probably be a bit too dark and cerebral to do justice to the source material IMO, but it would probably also be good. And I'm always for good filmmakers to take on geek properties, so I would be really curious to see it. Won't happen in 100 years, though. In fact, I doubt we'll see Nolan take on another nerd property again now that he's drawn enough money and built up enough capital to make whatever kind of movie he wants to.

let's see...... How would Transformers be like if it was serious and super realistic?

They have to be aliens and they transform into cars, but, how do you make that more realistic? I cannot think of anything.

Actually they would make them as complex and realistic as possible, cogs and metal parts everywhere, almost unrecognisable blurs of mechanics.
Then realise the FX were too expensive and only have 20mins of robot action in 2.5 hours of a movie. Then try and pad the rest out with "character development", great character actors shipped on and off of screen for little or no reason. Then when that fails add some humour, but get a teenager to write it, that way they will get the youth audience as well as the kids.

And when all else fails. Blow stuff up. Every 23mins or so. Doesn't matter what it is as long as it can explode in a mountain of smoke and flame. That will keep everyone happy, right?

My problem isn't with realism, I'll take the new looks only if the films themselves were made worthy of the change. The transformers films can be so much better, look at the X-men films, we have great ones, DOFP, First Class, X2, and really bad ones, X3, Origins W. Even the Batman films. Right now we are getting X3 level of bad for these films but no really knows it because they don't know the source material and how full of life and opportunity the Transformers world is. We can get Batman Begins and DOFP kind of films from Transformers but it will most likely never happen because of the writing and directing team the series has. The Xmen films have been put back on track because Bryan and Simon actually care about telling a great story, not selling big action scenes.

Yeah, no matter what the franchise is, you can get a good film out of it if there is an interest in doing that. But the Transformers movies just shovel in the money despite their excessive mediocrity. From the studio's standpoint, why would I change anything there?

Much to my surprise, I enjoyed it. Definite improvement over the last two disastrous installments. Hound rocks! :rock
