You know, it kinda isn't fair when the way they calculate the top movie money makers. The ticket prices go up every year so the movies may make more money with less tickets sold. They should judge a movie by ticket sales, not by how much money they take in.

The ticket prices are adjusted in the calculations.

In sixth, Paramount/DreamWorks' Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen added another $8 million in its fifth week to push its domestic total to $379.1 million. The Michael Bay-directed sequel is now the 10th-highest grossing film of all time domestically, surpassing 2003's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which made $377 million. "Revenge of the Fallen" earned $7.5 million internationally this weekend, pushing its foreign total to $413.2 million. The film's worldwide box office total is $792.3 million.

TRANSFORMERS FTW !!

It doesn't hurt that this summer has been an absolute dog. ROTF has had almost no competition. This is the worst summer movie season I can remember ever.

i find it amusing that some movie fans have the need to cite a movie's box office earnings to validate their love for the movie. as if box office earnings are ANY measurement of a movie's quality.

if u liked a movie, great. u shouldn't need to fall back on the whole "oh it's a huge financial hit so the snooty critics and whining fanboys can stuff it."

why should u care if others did not like it? movies like transformers2 are nothing more than popcorn entertainment and the film makers themselves know it. so if it managed to entertain u, then the movie is a success. and that's all that matters.

:lecture

you're absolutely right, to me it just shows that a lot of people are dumb.

I still wonder if they'd use ticket sales if the numbers would be different. I remember when I used to have to wait in line to see a movie for a Sunday matinee. I haven't done that since the first Jurassic Park movie.

No they're not. Go to Boxofficemojo. There you can go by adjusted for inflation and when you look at that, Gone With the Wind is number one followed by Star Wars. This is the model they should go by IMO.

I just hate that every year old records break and no one questions why: inflation. Are you going to tell me more people went to see TDK than Star Wars? Also going by inflation adjustment chart Titanic is not number one. I'll take having Gone With the Wind as number one to Titanic.

People are stupid. Anyone crowing about box office without taking inflation into account is a moron. But what can you do?

I could careless about that. Inflation smlation. Anyone rating a movie in terms of quality based on what it brings in at the box office are the biggest maroons of them all. Well, that, and us complaining about said maroons. :monkey4

I haven't seen it, and might never; but don't forget the BB exclusive that comes with the $50 SS GC. :wave
