Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Cadaver - Any tips on finding this perfect vest? Does it even have the hole in the back of the shoulders?

I believe I'm doing the same costume version for Wash as you are (orange-ish from the Serenity pilot), if the pics you posted are any indication.

P.S. - Hope you are experimenting with "dyeing" and not "dying". Then again, you've got the right screen-name for it...

thanks OG! it was your bashes that really inspired me to keep on looking for the best.

today I decided to pop in an episode and I saw how completely wrong my vest for Wash was. I now have one on the way that is the exact same as Washes on the show but green. looks like I am gonna experiment with dying soon.

also today, I got my new pants for zoe. they are Jill valentines and I thought they would look good. just debating if I want them the color they are or green. Opinions?

Haha! Yes dyeing, not a great typo.

I am doing the serenity pilot version with the orange and brown long sleeve shirt. The vest I got is this...

Looks to have the same pocket layout as his and has got the hole in the back. the only problem is the huge zipper but I can live with that.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Hey Cadaver, whether it's dying or dyeing, I think you're in for trouble when you try to dye that vest. It looks like the mesh is a polyester blend, and polyesters don't take to dyes very well, if at all. You may be better off with the black vest even if it's not quite right pocket wise. My son is going for the orange jump suit, brown shirt and black vest look, and that vest uses a polyester blend for the mesh.

When I went to dye Shiva's pants for Zoe dark brown, I saw that the thread wasn't taking the dye at all so I pulled the pants out of the dye before they were as dark a I would have liked them.If you look close you'll see that the thread is still cream color. The thread is a polyester blend. You may have the same problem with the Jill Valentine pants, but a dark green would look great. The pants you have her in now look very close in color. What ever you decide, good luck.

thats exactly what I was afraid of. I may just use fabric paint then if dyeing isn't an option. I also think I'm just leave Jill's pants on Zoe. they look good with the light. I will post some pics, I'm still on the fence about it.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

for that vest i would try a can of fabric spray paint. you can get it at home depot or lowes.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I look forward to seeing how that turns out. It will be more accuate then mine. I'm just not skilled enough at pouches/pockets to attempt it. I know I would disappoint myself.

Anyways... My crew has a new home!!
