I thought it was pretty good. The critical response hasn't been so great though.

I thought there was a bit too much posing going on, some of the dialogue was pretty clunky and it just didn't rope me in like the first season. My wife liked it more than me but I'll definitely stick with it for the season.

I'm going to let a few build up on my DVR before I start watching. I wasn't thrilled to hear about Vaughn in the cast since I have a hard time imagining him being serious in any role so it's already got a strike against it. Hopefully he'll surprise me.

will have to see if episode 2 draws me in more. I think the first episode of season one was such a hit right off the bat cause the crime was so gruesome looking, and ppl get drawn in easily with occult type stuff. Even when she is looking all butch and tough, Rachel still looks hot. I'm kind of curious why the biker cop needs Viagra to get it up for his chick.

Was shocked that John Carter of Mars was the biker cop. He look totally different with the short hair.

Just got through watching it a little while ago. Not on the same level of brilliance that was on display in season one, but it was pretty damn good nonetheless. Plus, we're only one episode in. This thing could blow up into something special. Critics have been mixed in their reviews but apparently they've only seen up through episode three. Pizzolatto insisted that this season would not have any occult/mystical/esoteric meanings yet I think he was lying out of his ass. There were elements in that first episode that could definitely lead to that kind of stuff. Interesting the way in which the character of the city manager was killed and what happened after as well as what was in the car's front passenger seat by the driver/killer. Also, all the lurid and crazy secrets the guy kept in his house. Also, the hippie commune guru played by David Morse commenting that "we're living in the last age of man" and making some subtle allusions to Cohle's esoteric discussions about the universe. And then the guru commenting on the "totems." Make the connection to what was in the car seat. There's definitely something at work besides just mob violence and noirish character types chewing the scenery.

I enjoyed it. it's not as good as the first season but didn't expect it to be. They will never top the first season.

I thought about her being the ex wife also but when Farrell was at the school it showed the new husband unless she's cheating on him :dunno
So Vaughn's red-haired moll is Farrell's ex and Farrell's red-head son is really Vaughn's child. Rape info given by Vaughn was to "buy a cop".

I thought the first season was overrated, but once I binged it this past weekend, I appreciated it much more.

I'm not going to write this one off, till I'm able to see the thing as one complete piece.

****ing ****. That...that was insane. Jesus.

I think in some ways, season 1 constructed a sort of safety net with Cohle; that idea that "oh, yeah, he wants to die; doesn't mean he'll get his wish. I, too, saw some foreshadowing, with the whole "nothing more dangerous than a man with nothing to lose" routine, but, ****, it's episode two, you know? I can't see anyone getting up from that, and, honestly, I wouldn't expect them to. I think the last time I was really caught off guard like that was The Wire. Come to think of it, The Wire had a lot of moments like that.:lol
