Seriously though, people give Florian so much credit for the Stevenson fight, but in reality that is the toughest opponent he has fought up until penn. that is kind of sad considering Stevenson has never even held a title or anything close to it. Kenflo may have submitted him quicker, but BJ sure damn did make a mess of his face over the few rounds before he choked him out.

When Kenflo fights Machida at an open weight fight, two Gracies, or Hughes in his hayday, or GSP, then talk about how versatile and great he has become. not after he has just fought a joe stevenson.

100% Agreed. I think people tend to forget not only want BJ has done over his entire career but especially what he's done specifically at LW. Still.. the stupid ish he does OUTSIDE the cage tends to tarnish what he's done IN the cage. And that's sad. But it's Penn's doing. No one to blame but himself.

But that is how superficial MMA fans are. They take what someone says and correlate it to their ability to win fights.

It's like Lesnar. Im not a fan of Lesnar, but Im smart enough to see that the guy is definitely a force to be reckoned with regardless of what he says or who he flips off. He is big and strong and has somewhat of an idea of what to do in a fight, and so far that has been enough for him to win. To say that he is done or whatever just because of what he says after a fight is irrelevant when you really think about it. People just like the drama.

I'm not sure his outside antics tarnish what he's done in the cage, but it does isolate fans. I almost fell off my chair laughing when I heard Mike Goldberg call Penn and "KenFlo" (worst nickname ever) 2 of the classiest fighters in the sport. BJ classy? Really? I watch the end of Franklin and Silva 2 - those guys show true class.

Last night BJ was awesome, the old BJ came out and dominated....and he did handle his victory well, walking up to Kenny and saying, now we're friends again. But it's hit or miss as usual, we'll see if BJ is back for good or if this win causes him to get lazy again. I really hope not with Sanchez coming up as his next opponent, that will be another great fight for BJ.


I've never been a huge BJ fan, and he pushed we further away after GSP and all that nonsense that ensued, but I did enjoy watching him last night.

That doesn't surprise me at all - people seem to forget what kind of power Anderson Silva has. I think Forest hit the ground and decided enough was enough - "no mas" - and who can blame him. Silva just make guys look bad. Top guys go against him and look like amateurs.

I don't remember people questioning Liddell knocking guys out moving back and with apparent ease. Counter punches can be devastating, especially when you're moving forward.

With that said I really thought and hoped Forest would last longer. Oh well.

So now do people still want to see GSP / Silva or would you rather watch Machida / Silva?

The problem is, and I think I've mentioned this before when Nash said the same thing that it's all "pre-fight hype".

The comments BJ Penn made about GSP supposedly taking steroids was not "pre-fight hype" because he wasn't fighting GSP. He was fighting Florian.

Him going to court and accusing GSP of greasing, calling GSP a liar and cheater was not "pre-fight hype" because he was no longer fighting GSP. He had just lost.

And as far as his actual "pre-fight hype" trash talking: it's his choice to say what he says. So if it ends up making him look foolish (GSP II Fight) then oh well. He has to accept that, and accept people making fun of him because he looked like an ass clown. Same with Mir, same with everyone who chooses to do that.
