A Special Thank You to Fans and Friends
Category: Blogging

Dear Fans and Friends,

Many of you have written to ask why my profile no longer appears on the UFC’s website. My manager has confirmed that I am no longer with the UFC, but I would like to personally take this opportunity to clear up any rumors that are out there regarding the situation.

I was in Vegas for the epic UFC 100 event and during the day attended the Fan Expo. After dinner, I attended a couple of pre-event gatherings, during which time I started to feel ill and returned to my room. My illness worsened through the night and into the next day. I truly believe I was suffering from food poisoning. When I realized it was later in the day than I had thought, I notified the proper UFC personnel of the situation and told them I would get ready and report for my duties as quickly as possible, but I was instructed to stay put in my room and not chance exposing anyone else to my illness.

It was the most disappointing thing in the world for me to hear the screams and cheers of fans from my hotel room and not be able to attend this historic event. It was one in which I had looked forward to for months both as a fan and as an employee of the UFC.

A few days after the event, I was contacted by UFC management, who informed me that they had heard rumors that I was not sick, but had drank too much the previous night and my illness was a result of that. Even though I assured them this was not the case, management asked me to step aside and relinquish my duties as a UFC Octagon girl. In retrospect, I should have gone to the hospital or insisted that the UFC’s doctor check me for food poisoning, but I thought I could get through it on my own.

The result of what I feel was a misunderstanding has saddened me tremendously, and I have taken the past couple of weeks to absorb it all.

I have a great amount of respect and gratitude toward Dana White, Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, the UFC and Zuffa, LLC and want to thank them for the most wonderful opportunity of being a UFC Octagaon Girl for the past year-and-a-half. I have met fantastic people—fighters, fellow ring girls, management and most importantly, the fans. I have traveled the globe beyond my wildest dreams and seen truly memorable events and places along the way. It has been a beautiful journey, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I have always been, and will remain a fan of mixed martial arts and the UFC.

I don’t yet know what the future holds for me from here, but I look forward to the possibilities!

Again, thank you all for your friendship, love and support.

Love,

Edith xox

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Houston Alexander faltered when it mattered most, and now the UFC veteran will soon receive his walking papers from the organization.

UFC president Dana White today told a small group of reporters at the UFC 107 pre-event press conference that Alexander, who recently dropped a lackluster unanimous decision to Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson, has been cut from the UFC.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has since confirmed the process hasn't been completed but soon will be.

Alexander, who returned from a one-fight break from the organization, suffered the loss this past weekend on Dec. 5 at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale. Alexander circled the cage and didn't engage for nearly two minutes into the fight. Once he did, his explosive standup game – one that earned him a big fan following with vicious knockout of Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara – never truly emerged.

Instead, Ferguson used solid clinch work and takedowns to control the fight and take the decision win. Alexander is now 2-4 in the UFC with four consecutive losses, and his overall mark stands at 9-5.

"I was going to leave," White said of Ferguson vs. Alexander. "I was going to get up and walk out of the fight. That's what I thought of it. If I didn't have to hand out 'The Ultimate Fighter' trophy at the end (of the event), I would have left that night. It wasn't a good night for me."

While complimenting Ferguson for a legit career win, White also compared Alexander to former UFC fighter Kalib Starnes, who was cut in 2008 following a bizarre loss to Nate Quarry. Starnes, who later said he was injured prior to the bout, continually backpeddled in the fight, which he lost via blowout scores of 30-26, 30-27 and 30-24.

"As disgusted as I was with Houston Alexander's performance, Kimbo beat a real guy," White said. "The last thing I expected was for Houston Alexander to come in and do the Kalib Starnes."

White said he never discussed his displeasure with the fighter.

"I don't even want to talk to him," he said. "Houston had an opportunity to – ahh, anyway."

The termination follows what had been a heavily promoted storyline for UFC officials. The UFC garnered a lot of positive mainstream press thanks to Alexander, a single father of six children who donated a kidney to one of his kids. The soft-spoken but hard-hitting hip-hop DJ and public speaker began his MMA career in underground fight clubs, where he quickly garnered a legendary reputation, before earning his way to the UFC.

UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi:

UFC president Dana White on Thursday revealed that Matt Hughes would make his next appearance in the Octagon in April. He hinted at Renzo Gracie as Hughes’ opponent, but didn’t outright confirm it.

“Sounds good to me,” he said of the proposed bout through a Cheshire grin.

Well, Hughes took care of the rest on his official Web site later in the day.

“I see that Dana has let the cat out of the bag. So I can tell you what I know, on April 10th I will be fighting Renzo Gracie in Abu Dhabi,” the former UFC welterweight champion wrote. “I haven’t signed any paperwork and I don’t think Renzo has either; but I think this fight is going to happen.”

He indicated that he would begin “serious training” at the New Year.

Not only does Hughes’ post firm up the bout with Gracie, who also talked about it in a recent Portuguese language interview, but it also firms up a date for the UFC’s debut in Abu Dhabi.

GSP vs. Hardy has been confirmed for 111 in Newark, NJ too.

Haven't seen anything but you know how he feels about Mazagatti already. :lol:lol:lol

no, i dont actually. i dont really read too much about mma, but i love practicing it and watching it. i dont disagree with the DQ, i'm just curious if Dana is going to hold it against Bones

no, i dont actually.

Oh in that case:

Dana White said:
Mazzagatti, as a referee? This ?????king guy shouldn't even be watching MMA on TV, let alone refereeing it. I think he's the worst ref in the history of any fight business, ever. He's horrible. We don't pick the refs. The athletic commission does. Those guys are picked by the government. It's not that I don't like him, he's a nice guy. He's an absolute nice guy, he has no business whatsoever being anywhere near mixed martial arts.

:lol:lol:lol

Nah.. it wasn't intentional, everyone who's seen the fight knows that. Including Dana White. So I expect the UFC to continue pushing Jones as if it never happened tbh.

Bobby Lashley signed with Strikeforce. His first fight is on Jan. 30th with no opponent announced yet, it is the same night that Herschel Walker is going to have his first fight as well.

Herschel Walker is in MMA?? Dude, if you want to be on TV so bad, contact ESPN for a football spot
