All I'm saying is Jones is clearly a very intelligent fighter. I don't care if you like him or not, you can not argue that he isn't a smart fighter. He has already prooven himself to everyone by dominating every fighter they have sent his way. As much as I would love to see this fight I think he simply just made a smart decisision. The way you talk about this stuff it sounds like your talking about a pro wrestling match, and honestly thats the image I think these elite UFC champions are trying to get away from. You can taunt Jones all day long, but it doesn't matter he won't budge b/c he is the champ and you have to earn the right to fight him. Yeah I realize it doesn't work out for everyone and the fans def suffer the most, but at the end of the day Jones's real job is to hold on to that belt and do so with dignity and thats what I think he's doing. Some mite think his soul purposes is to entertain them but they are ignorant and wrong IMO.

That is his job to entertain us. Now, the hard part is actually winning a fight verses losing a fight. I get that he wants to be able to study the guy he is fighting but this was a unique situation presented to him. Dana doesnt forget when you help him out of a jam and he damn well does remember when you put him in one. Bones will pay for this. Its not like it was in the early to mid 2000's and a fighter could go to Pride and make more money. The UFC is the only game in town if your a fighter. He shouldnt have burnt this bridge.

I can see what you mean there. Jones clearly is not the most popular of champs and it def is in his best interest to stay in good terms with Dana and the brass. Champs who go against the grain with Dana traditionally seem to have a tough time keeping a float, and Jones clearly went against the grain with him here.

The whole thing just seems fishy to me. Sonnen has been baiting Jones for weeks now, and Jones has been trying to do the smart thing my just shrugging it off. Jones was assured by White that Sonnen would not be allowed to talk his way to the belt like he tried to do with Silva ( apparently a promise Dana forgot when his title fight card was on the line). Sonnen is known for talking trash and baiting in fighters. He announced over a month ago that he was moving to the light heavy weight division and I'm sure he has been training like a 205Lb'er in preperation for his fight with Griffin in December. Another key thing to remember is Chael trains with Henderson and they are very good friends so he probably knows his game plan against Jones and god only knows what else.

At the end of the day Sonnen is always a dangerous fighter and something just didn't seem right here, though it was not the popular decision it was the smart one. He would have only had three days to properly train for this fight (as the 5 days before the fight are cutting weight and press time) and Jones said he would gladly fight him on the 22nd. I think once the smoke clears people will realize that Jon probably made the smartest decision in a lose/lose situation.

Sonnen doesn't deserve the shot, but that isn't a good enough excuse for Jones to turn him down.UFC wanted the fight to happen. He is the champ and should fight anyone UFC says he will fight.

But then again, fighting Sonnen requires different preperations because he's a pure wrestler, and a damn good one.I do understand what Greg and Bones are thinking, such a short notice and facing two completely different fighters.
I wonder if Jones would change his mind if the fight with Sonnen happend on Sept.22,have plenty of time to prepare.

I'll never buy/watch a Jon Jones event again.

I agree, and Dana should've offered the fight to be a non-title fight since it's not Henderson fighting. Either way, Jones is ducking out.

I used to be a big JBJ fan but champs don't duck fights! Jones took the cowards way out, not fighting a 185er that's not been training is a cowards move. UFC should strip his belt and mandate a moveup to HW or cut his a$$. His selfishness cost a lot of people and companies money. Now him fighting a 185er on Sept 22nd is a joke! Won't happen most likely but I hope Vitor KO's Jones, either way I won't be watching.

Pretty easy to "fight anyone, anytime" when you have nothing to lose. :lol

you guys hating on sonnen are a bunch of ***s. he has nothing to lose?... he offered jones his whole fight purse added to the fact that he would be the one moving up in weight class. no matter how you slice it, jones has the advantage in the fight yet he still turns it down. like dana said, first time in ufc history a champ turned down a fight like this. what a *** move...and sonnen has everything to lose. if he loses to jones he can pretty much kiss his lhw aspirations goodbye.

bottom line, jones is a ***** and some of you showed your true colors that tou only like supporting the dominant champ (certain ***s that claim they have no favorites in mma)... rofl what a joke

given you think jones is so dominant why did he duck sonnen? answer that

:goodpost:

Forgot to mention but Greg Jackson can go **** himself too. It's one thing to have your guys run in the cage but to run away from the fight altogether, unreal.

As long as they covered my medical and dental bills I'd get in the ring with these guys. Wouldn't be a fight, but it might be entertaining to see how a guy off the street would fare with a professional fighter.

Sorry bud but I'm not paying to see you or a dude off the street killed. :monkey4

was the rest of the card that weak that they had to cancel it?
I really don't know why Greg jackson told Jones not to take the fight. Sonnen would get scraped by bones. Everyones taking about how he almost best Silva. But guess what, Silva ain't no wrestler. Jones has never been taken down.
I'm a huge JBJ fan and would've loved for him to take the fought anyways. As much as a champ should be smart with choosing his fights, I hate to see him too cautious, where he jabs or blankets his way for the win like GSP. Hopefully he'll continue to finish guys off like he did with Shogun. It really sucks that he's getting all this blame. Hopefully he won't be enemy #1 for to long

if Sonnen was a man of his word wouldnt he be retired from the UFC right now?? :lol

why? anderson didn't accept his challenge, so why should he hold up that end of the deal if there was no "deal" to begin with? dumb fans...too many of them around this sport.

I dont get it...such a crazy ruckus caused by 1 fight...I still think Jon is a great fighter, but it would be awesome if Vitor KOed him.
