Blade Runner: either you hate it or you love it. (Guess which category I fall into.) It's been announced that the ownership situation has finally been resolved. It will return to theaters for the 25th Anniversary and there will be 2 different DVD sets released in both HD-DVD and Blu-ray. I also saw a resent BBC interview with Harrison Ford talking about how he's come to terms with the movie. He never talks about BR, so maybe this was done for the DVD. I'll post it if I can find it again.

This news also might mean product licensing is up for grabs! I hope Sideshow is looking into this. I love my Android 001 figure, but can only image what SSC could do.

Here's a detailed article from The Digital Bits

Very cool...I'am one of the lovers...I really dont understand why there is such a distaste for BR by many......anyway this is good news for me....I would love to watch this on the big screen!!

Wow....Thanks for the news Batty.. I've always loved this movie.. I mean... how can you not? To see a young Edward James Olmos do his thing is worth it alone. :rotfl

All kidding aside... I am genuinely excited about this... I did not get it on DVD, waiting for just such a thing to happen. I really wanted a definitive collector's item DVD for my collection, so this is going to be exactly what I wanted.

SWEET!! :chew

I own both versions - original and director's cut on VHS, and I'll be VERY
happy to see this in Theatres (original that is) and also get the new DVD.

Absolutely one of my favorite movies, AND the Roy Batty soliloquy of
"tears in rain" is my favorite film sequence of all time. Period.

As a side note, if somebody has a video clip of that sequence, I'd VERY
much appreciate knowing where I could view it. The ones on youtube
are all in foreign languages, and I've not found the original English one yet. :(

THANKS! :D

JS :)

Jesus, it's about damn time. Seriously I thought BR would never see the light of day because I sure do hate the Director's cut, hack job on Ridley Scott's part.

Sweeeeeet! I missed it in the theatres the first time, it'll be awesome to see it in all it's theatrical glory.
As you can tell I'm in the "I love Blade Runner" camp. :D

The "Director's Cut" is a misnomer. While it is more towards what Scott had in mind (removing the voice-over and the "happy" ending), the studio gave Ridley Scott very little time to get it ready for the rerelease. Even he's said how he felt like it was rushed and not his final vision. I personally hated the voice-over and the happy ending. I'm hoping this "Final Cut" will be more like the legendary Dallas/Denver work cut. This is supposed to be the version Scott wanted all along, but was nixed by the studio heads.

I was lucky enough to see Blade Runner in the theaters both in 1982 and in 1992. Can't wait to see it again.

Oh I know the whole story behind what happened. I just am glad they are giving you the option on which one you can watch. I also don't buy the whole Deckard is a Replicant, makes no sense.

Do you prefer the original theatrical version? Or is it just the Deckard/Replicant thing that you don't like? I'm not a big fan of that either, btw. I think it takes too much away from the character.

I actually do prefer the original release with all of the Tyrell gore intact. Or I guess I should say original home video release. But at least it will be anamorphic, right. :chew

That's fantastic news you have there Batty! Blade Runner is definitely my favorite movie. I Love Philip K. Dick's work. Didn't have time to read the article yet, but here are my two "truths" about Blade Runner:
-I love the voice over, and have been missing it ever since the directors cut came out. Hope this will be fixed with the new release.
-Deckard is NOT a replicant.

Sideshow, go get that licence!

I love Blade Runner.

I like the VO.

It makes the whole thing a film noir piece. The Director's Cut is too slow and... well a bit pretentious IMHO. But the VO takes the pretentious edge off, picks the pace up and makes the whole thing more fun.

I saw it opening weekend in 1982 and personally own the VHS of the original film while opting not to pick up the DVD Directors Cut. So nostalgia may come into play.

On another note: I finally tracked down a bootleg Android Hunter figure this month... $51 on eBay, can-you-belive-it. Once I get my Batty "Android" head back from being painted by Customikey, I'll be all set! :D

Didn't have the time this morning to go into this, but, if I did have the time, this is more or less what I would have said about the VO. Now I got to read the article!

Great price! I paid $58 for mine. At one time you couldn't get one for less than $80. Please post pics as soon as you get his head back. Any thoughts of changing his body?

I'll take pics for sure!

The Batty body fell apart while trying to remove its clothes. So I swaped his head for the Dragon body that came with Deckard. Then I moved Deckard to a Sideshow body. Then I mailed the head off to Customikey. Currently I have Deckard hanging out with Sanjuro from my Alfrex collection.

The prices have been crazy this year! One Android Hunter sold for a BIN of $300! In April one sold for $495!?!

The Batty bodies blew! I moved mine onto a Sideshow body and got a Frontline replacement head which I painted myself. They also have a replacement head for Deckard.

Had no idea Frontline made a replacement head for Batty. I knew about Deckard, but it's hard to imagine Frontline's being too much better than the V.3 head.

Between your telling of the Batty head and the Apone heads on this board, I'm getting the feeling that Frontline has a whole line of heads that aren't on their website.

Dave, do you have any pics of the Batty head you painted? Would love to see it. :D
