Hmm...I like Re-animator and do agree that its a cult classic, but I almost think its overrated in my opinion.

Love the movie but I'd have to agree with this statement. WTH is with the Power Ranger stuff?! :lol

The thing with kurt russel directed by john carpenter. AWESOME MOVIE special effects by Rob Botin. The prequel comes out this october by universal pictures and I'm counting the days.

Another example of a film that's NOT underrated. Great movie and it gets the respect and hype it deserves across the board.

:monkey3 thanks again Batty for finally nagging me to watch it 2 spooks ago.

well Nam, if you must know my friend I have a guilty pleasure for Green Ranger and White Ranger and well Sentai general, but at the same time did it as kind of a joke. :monkey3

A Serbian film...I watched it and again I think its over rated. With all the hype that was backing this thing I figured I had to see it regarding all the horrible things that were apprently in it. While I would say its definetly not for the PG-13 casual horror fan, it just reminded me of some over the top porn with lots of violence. I didnt get all the hidden meanings that everyone was talking about. I will say for what it was it was made fairly well and ok as a movie, but I watched the screener version and after it was over I just felt no need to see it again. I also will say that for sure this film will be banned in most countries.

Yeah ive been meaning to switch it out cause ive had the green ranger up for a while. Just a matter of time before I switch it out man. I probably will do another Jason to celeberate the epic PF release.

anybody checked out wasting away?
funny journey from the zombies perspective.:lol

*still unable to catch "of unholy origins". my last straw.:gah:

"Of Unknown Origin" is pretty good and has a very young Peter Weller in it...

The post above reminded me about this one...

Horror movies I watched in the past year or so ( My opinions on their quality obviously, everyone here might feel differently of course)

Must See
********

The Loved Ones - A horror tale about prom night and about how people cope/can't cope with loss. Best horror movie I've seen in the last five years. All the gore/violence actually serves to develop/highlight something going on with the characters involved, IMHO, a lot of the horror isn't what's shown but what's clearly implied about the people themselves. IMHO, if you don't see this movie, and you love horror, then you are missing out

My Super Psycho Sweet 16 Part 1 & 2 - IMHO, it only really works if you watch both together. About a girl with the legacy of a father for a murderer. Low budget but very honest and respectful to a lot of hard truth about teenagers, high school and the infinite capacity for cruelty in most. I believe these were originally aired on MTV. These are are very solid, though no groundbreaking, horror flicks.

The Horseman ( 2008) - This might fall a bit into the thriller/revenge category more than horror, but I think there are enough horror elements in it to qualify. Australian movie about a father dealing with the loss of his daughter. This is a really brutal and surprisingly honest film. This is like Man On Fire on steroids. Lots of steroids.

Dead Set - BBC short series ( The total is about the length of a 2 hour movie) about a reality show caught in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. I don't really watch reality TV, but I've been told if you do somewhat, there is a lot of dark humor as well. Low budget but pretty well made.

A Serbian Film - This is essentially a mock snuff film inside of a fictional snuff film. I would say the violence itself ranges borderline on torture porn, but there are high production values and it does cover the theme of why people watch what they watch and the nature of a viewing audience and the reality of it all. If you have a strong stomach and can get past the violence ( IMHO a lot more is implied rather than shown, but still a good amount is shown), there is a lot of strong subtext about human behavior and the nature of violence. IMHO, this is a movie you should watch alone first if you are a big fan of horror, if only because the subject matter is grim enough to where you might not want to expose casual horror fans to it unaware. I suspect this is a film that will be eventually banned in many countries at some point.

Pretty Good, Worth Renting

Nice recommendations, just ordered Frozen! :)

I like mine with a bit of comedy (These ones are also underrated):
Black Sheep (No, not the Chris Farley film. It's from New Zealand, effects by Weta, mentioned earlier in the thread.)
Slither
Dead Alive/Braindead (so... much... gore... and... a lawn gnome?!)

My scariest picks:
The Shining (couldn't go in the bathroom with the shower curtain closed for a long time)
Pet Semetary

I'm actually eyeing Black Sheep. Is it worth a buy? :)

Yeah I for one really like Dog Soldiers and have recommended it to others. Easily one of the better werewolf movies.

Don't know if it's been said, but checkout Outpost, really cool zombie movie (well, not in the traditional sense, but still very nice).

I didn't enjoy Dog Soldiers at all, though it had some hype that might have built my expectations up too highly. I actually own Outpost (bought it at Big Lots for $3 or something), but never watched it. I like Stevenson and zombies, but. . .it looks pretty freakin' cheesy based on the DVD case :D

I will also try to check out some of your recommendations, Meat :rock

Great movie (though I see them more as ghosts than zombies). Deathwatch with Andy Serkis (Gollum in LOTR) is another great one.

Yeah I liked outpost as well, thought it was a little slow, but I agree to me they were more ghosts than zombie. I'll have to give Deathwatch a try, its actually on the netflix instant.

Also Nam, yeah man I brought back Jason since the 13th is coming up and well gotta celebrate a legend :)
