Slashers are horror man, slashers are easily my favorite sub-genre next to zombies.

I love the Prowler and I remember as a kid Maniac scared the hell out of me.

I kinda separate the 2. For me horror is a movie that scares me because is scary, slashers aren't necessary scary, just a blood bath that has music to scare you. Don't know if that made sense. Example, Exorcist to me is Horror, Friday the 13th, slasher. But I know they are always under one category.

I recently discovered Prowler and Maniac within the last 6-7 months. I feel The Prowler holds it own. Maniac was pretty sick, I can't believe I jumped in the part when he's on top of that model in the apartment towards the end. Just got caught up in the moment I guess:lol. The Tom Savini scene in the car is probably the best kill I have ever scene. Loved it.

Ahh I got ya, yeah there not really scary. I just love the idea of a killer in a mask and a high body count scenario. Thats good times for me :D

I get ya, i just look at it all as horror regardless if its "scary" or "fun".

Agreed. I only watched Frozen because it had Adam Green attached as director. And since I loved Hatchet (Yes, you heard right) I was quick to jump on watching that one. It was surprisingly good but not much reply value IMHO. I remember my Best Buy had hundreds, literally hundreds of copies of this movie on dvd that took a good chunk of the shelves in the aisles. It remained there almost untouched for months after.

I know many may not agree and these a couple of these are more slashers than horror but......

Candyman

The Prowler

Maniac

Is there anybody on this forum who didn't?! :dunno

I honestly feel Hatchet did for horror what Expendables did for action flicks. :rock:rock:rock

The Prowler was awesome. A favorite of mine. And 80's slasher films are my favorite. I have a soft spot for them because I grew up with them.

This is exactly why i love slashers. The burning really messed me up as a kid as well. Finally getting to see Cropsy and that music...as a kid i was done man. Its funny because growing up I just couldnt get enough of monsters and killers in masks, lol.

The video footage from "Prince of Darkness" has always creeped me out.

When I was a kid and I was at the video store I used to try and avoid the video box for Zombie. "We are going to eat you." Ahh! Scared the hell out of me.

:lol same here man. I remember watching the original Friday The 13th in broad daylight and when that babe took the axe to the face it ____ed me up. Next day I watched part 2 :lol

ha ha ha, yeah its funny because my dad had a recorded VHS copy of F13. pt 2, 3 and 4 on one VHS tape...it was basically like 5 something hours of F13th...man i watched that tape a million times. I never got enough Jason as a kid. I always joke and say Jason is one of my childhood heroes, lol.

10-to-1 says it got fuzzy over the boobie parts. :lol

no way nam, my dad didnt care man. I got full boobage when I was a kid :yess:

*Heres a wierd story sort of, I remember my dad taking me to a local video store (long before blockbusters) and it was my 9th or 10th birthday and I got to rent a free movie. I remember i picked out Texas Chainsaw Massacare 2 so I hand it to my dad and hes like ok, I just remember the guy saying something like "it has to be a kids movie sir" and my heart sank because I was ready for some chainsaw action. It was the cover of them laying all on the floor and leather kinda doing the fist pump. So my dad made me put it back and I ended up getting some cartoon.

Live and learn man, I still credit my dad to my horror liking.

Haven't read all 106 pages of discussion, but I'd like to throw "The Strangers" into the ring, if it hasn't already.

Then again, perhaps it did get hyped over in the states, all I know is that here in Oz, most people I talk to bout it, haven't heard of it.

:lol yeah dude good ____. I remember my dad trying to scare me with the evil dead and the batteries in the romote died so he couldn't stop it and it scared him :lol that's why no remake can ever outdo the originals. Memory lane.

True, but couple funny kills scenes (especially the love scene:lol). Still enjoyed it.

Lol :) Yeah Hatchet, I stil have nightmares about the Scarecrows movie!

Hardly underrated. More like overhyped. :lol

:)

Personally I think:

Carpentar's The Fog and The Thing are way underated..

The Fog is one of the creepiest movies from the 80's.

Hell Night...very underated.

Hmm I would say they are mainstream horrors!

Ok, my last one..... They Live :) sure that's over due for a remake!

The Strangers? the one with Liv Tyler?
it was really hyped here, they even do a Haunted House of that in California for Universal Studios or something, I remember hearing something like that,
a lot of people I know loved the Strangers, but I happen to find the movie extremely slow and boring, kinda dull, I mean, i didn't believe the tension it was trying to build and didn't care for any of the characters, the end was meh.

Speaking of Home invasion, One movie I thought it as okay is The Collector, that movie didn't do great here and not many people saw it, but I thought it was good

I also liked Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, it was a pretty good satire on the slasher genre, i mean, no known actors and it has some cheesy lines but, I thought it was pretty cool

Same boat with my mom. That happened to us when we used to rent videos at Western Appliance back in the day. I wanted Terminator (which I'd already seen a few times) and they said no. So when she got a new pass for Music Plus, I'd just hand her whatever horror movie I wanted to see and she always told me to go look for next weeks while she checked them out so that we wouldn't have to deal with that. :lol
