I'm not sure why you're so outraged by all of this, frankly. Who is it really hurting? If you take a hardline approach to copyright, then any artist who does anything even tangentially related to Alien, Star Wars, Predator would be shut down, but I don't think that would help the copyright holders at all. If anything, it would dampen enthusiasm for their properties. Is that what you think should happen?

I personally believe any artist who profits outside of the IP holders wishes should be shut down. Many IP holders however have stated they do not have a problem with custom figures/statues/etc as long as the run is under a certain number.

So...you want to kill the entire garage kit community then?

And, the second part of your statement negates everything Devil666 is ranting about. The IP holders DEFINATELY know about the garage kit community and their production, AND SALE, of items based off of their creations. But, as Badvermin stated, they're not concerned as long as it's not a huge production run.

There are have been NUMEROUS instances though were a kit producer was given a C&D order to stop production. So, they know kits are out there...they know people sculpt and sell these things...and they don't care. UNLESS the kit producer starts making a huge profit off of the item. But, this is a RARE case as it's very expensive for the kit producer to have a kit sculpted and cast. And then, the kit usually only appeals to a small percentage of collectors. So they make no real profit off of it.

They do it mainly for the love of the subject matter. And let's face it, if it wasn't for the garage kit community, we wouldn't have alot of the great pieces we do now. ALOT of the current sculptors working for the big name companies pumping out "licensed" pieces, used to be garage kit sculptors. And actually still support the community.

So...what's your point Devil?

Actually, no. Faken at that point in time did not know that the wolf was a recast. My understanding is the mask was recast and the slight warp from the ADI corrected from that.

This man speaks the truth... That's why this was pulled from my shop. The Elder and the Ancient bios from AvP however are original sculpts from Biohunter.

Exactly right... anyone who thinks they can make a ton of cash producing kits is in for a real shock :lol

I dont understand peoples beef against recasters, I bet more than half of the people here have or have had a recasted piece in their collection....

I don't have anything that is recast in my collection... Anyone who recasts an original sculpt for profit or lack of effort is a pos in my books, and for a ton of reasons. I did buy a recast when I didn't know any better, and I threw it in the trash when I found out what it was and sourced an original.

Prime coat done.
