Cajunsith if your happy with your purchase thats all that matters mate.
I'm not suporting re-casters especially those who rip off high end stuff
but truth be said we have all ripped off someone, wether its burning DVD's/CD's
or songs for your Ipod. over 2000 songs never paid for one.
Cajunsith paint this bio mask and get some pics up coz' I wanna see the finished
product and congrats on the new purchase.

There is a guy over at the Hunter's Lair (a site for predator costuming) who makes bios (he sculpts them) pretty much from scratch. I remember seeing him working on a wolf bio before SS annouced the licensenced Wolf bio.
He was going to scratch the project once SS annouced their Wolf bio but decided to go foward since he had gotten fo far along. His AVP Elder & and AVP acient bio is beyond words. I, at one time onwed most of them but had to let go due to a financial hardship at the time. The AVP Elder was the one I still regret letting go the most. I bought them raw and did the paintjob myself.

these look amazing!

I can understand that, but if only so many are made and sold out, how will they make any more profit on that item?? If these items wouldn't be limited, they could make even more profit on their products & satisfy more customers. That's just stupidity on that company's part. I have a Hot Toys Ani-com Scar predator & I know these are very limited. I wish enough were made so everyone who wants one can own one without paying a fortune for it. That would most likely lower the price & value of these & that's fine with me. I don't collect to sell later & price rape someone, I collect because I want these items. These people that buy stuff just to sell it later so they can price rape someone are worst than recasters IMO. Taking advantage of someone else's disadvantage is just wrong. Why cast stones at the buyers?

right on!!!!

That AVP Elder bio is AMAZING!:horror

It LOOKS like the bio Predamaker sells on the Hunter's Lair, which as far as I know IS NOT a recast.

Yeah, I occasionally lurk the boards over there. Lots of talented folks!

They may both be wrong from the point of view of copyright, but recasting is a making straight-out copy of an item, not an interpretive work based on an idea.

"Interpretive"!?

Most, if not ALL figures that custom artists sell are exact copies of the source design. To the smallest possible detail because potential customers want and expect accuracy, not interpretation when it comes to pre-existing character designs. And in most cases, these artists ALSO RECAST. Some take pre-exisiting head sculpts, do some minor modifications and then RECAST IT and sell it as their OWN, keeping 100% of the profit. :duh

I don't think you can say that recasting someone's sculpture is the same as making an original figure or sculpture based on someone else's character or design.

You can, because in both cases someone elses work is being stolen. That's like saying a counterfeiter who simply photo copies money is worse than a counterfeiter who makes plates and has an intricate process for creating their fake money. They're both wrong. Just because one process is simpler to do than the other doesn't mean that it's automatically worse.

that's it, I'm sold Devil. EVERYONE's a recaster. Even people that create their own sculpts from scratch. Oh but wait, they are copying off an existing character... Well, that good since I have a slight problem with people who recast. At least now I can finally get out of the hobby and save my hard earned cash. phew!

I'm not sure why you're so outraged by all of this, frankly. Who is it really hurting? If you take a hardline approach to copyright, then any artist who does anything even tangentially related to Alien, Star Wars, Predator would be shut down, but I don't think that would help the copyright holders at all. If anything, it would dampen enthusiasm for their properties. Is that what you think should happen?

Or are you just playing devil's advocate to point out an inconsistency in people's way of thought?

Let me make this perfectly clear: I don't have a problem with custom artists/sculptors OR recasters. I don't knock peoples hustle. I'm simply addressing the double standard.

Yep, that's him.

Believe his wolf is a recast. I'm not bashing anyone but i think most people would appreciate knowing if what they're buying was an original piece or a recast when making their purchase.

Dont worry man, do what I do, SEE IT, WANT IT, BUY IT, OWN IT.....

That is Exactly what I did!! I started this thread to share with fellow freaks, not to offend anyone. BTW I'm fixing minor flaws on my Wolfie bio at the moment, I'll start the painting within the next 2 days. Pics will be posted as soon as I start priming it. Thanks to everyone for their time & support!! :D :peace
