Super Freak
I don't get anywhere near enough time to sculpt and don't think I'm improving much but when I get a chance it's definitely enjoyable.
Getting there Tay. Well done m8, practice makes perfect
may i ask what u use to sculpt with?
Super sculpey firm currently mate. I used regular sculpey at first but found it way too soft.
I've been interested in trying to sculpt in wax also.
Nice, i've just oredered some SS firm, as ive been using super sculpey and i do find it a bit soft myself. Any tips for getting that smooth skin surface? Some say lighter fluid with a paintbrush help to smooth down....
Wow, that's really freaking cool. As an expert, I know. This is really cool though and I really like the skin texture too.
Believe or not that smoothing has all been done with just my fingers and sculpting tools, it's not good enough though and I've been wondering the same thing. Cheungkinmen, the member here who is a brilliant sculptor and artist all round, gave me a few tips on smoothing a while ago and mentioned he uses turpentine but I've heard you have to be really careful with that, it can destroy detail quite quickly and practically melt the clay so you'd probably be best practicing with it on something else before you're sculpts. I've heard 70% and 90% alcohol works well but I've not tried that either. Baby oil I've heard but I tried that and it didn't do much, if anything from what I could see.
I never end up smoothing out my sculpts properly since I always start something new before I finish it but I'm determined to finish this samurai character properly now and bake it so I'll see how it goes.
I think you'll prefer sculpey firm, it'll probably take some getting used to considering it's quite different but it does hold detail better, for me at least.
There are a few who prefer to use regular sculpey but I'd say most sculptors and budding sculptors here find firm easiest to work with.
Thanks mate, this is the first time I've attempted any type of skin texture.
Try using lighter fluid for smoothing it does amazing...Caine gave me the tip and it works wonders
