right now i did type all this bit last night but my log in timed out...and it was gone 5 am.anyway, heres the evolution of Mooncats ROTS vaders mask/helmet.The original parts were from the kotobukiya ROTS vader vinyl statue...so here goes..
DSCF1502.jpg

firstly the koto helmet was removed and hollowed out, then the crown detailing was cut from a casted OT helmet and grafted on....
DSCF1518-1.jpg

..then the brow details were added also cut from a casted helmet, along with brass etched details (not pictured)
DSCF1527-1.jpg

then molds were made and casts done (so it can be repeated if neccessary and Entropy chicken has a ROTS helmet as paret of his order.)
DSCF1685-1.jpg

luckily the figuremaster sent me some great shots of the ROTS internals so....these were studied and several patterns were made for brass etched details, this is one (of four)set for the mouth section and some other bits within the mask
DSCF1961-1.jpg

heres the mouth section assembled
DSCF1686.jpg

the screen used prop appears to have rubberised no slip matting used as a lining, could'nt make it from anything to hand so this was sculpted in milliput...and brass etched mesh for the mouth screen.
DSCF1995.jpg

the start of the internal detailing, the first four of 20 lengths of wire...
DSCF1999.jpg

i studied the shots of both the movie and the MR ROTS helmet and saw the neck section was way undersized on the koto statue, so and new 'skirt' was added, using plasticard on a casted neck piece...this was then blended with milliput, sanded down and a mold made...

DSCF2052.jpg

neck brace was detailed with metal spikes and other parts to replace molded details...

That is just... well, amazing doesn't even come close.

I cant fathom the amount of detail thats gone in that,

Its like the scene were the mask gets lowered down, its hard to imagine the scale based on these pics, how fiddly a frickin job must that have been !

Thank you for your hard work cant wait to have him displayed !

look forward to it, so far theres several types of body, im finding the hasbro /sideshow is working well for housing the electronics, the sideshow big boys work well with extended legs for those with just the cathode saber, the HT body will work very well for those with no electronics at all, but then the sideshow big boy isnt bad, the advantage of the HT is availability, diferent hand pegs, less fiddly than the sideshow ones, the more i study the HT body ive here im not overly confident itll taqke the invertor/battery for the cathode saber, where as the SSc big boy does...those waitng on vaders wont need to worry about hold ups as their bodies are done, and use the most suitable body for their specs, a couple have ALOT of electronics inside the torsos, voice circuit/powersource, lights, cathode invertor, flashing cicuit, cathode power source (9volt),voice speaker unit.Once Coco and ive compared notes we hopefully will have a new body for use.
im guessing too that the HT pred bodies will work well too requiring less mods, but i cant bring myself to chop up either my pred 2 or AVPR pred ,sorry...,
Any the next to be seen should offer yet another option, something completely new and unique, so stay tuned.....

when i close my eyes at night i see black helmets......:google:google:google

Glenn:
What have been the latest advances regarding the body you are using for light up boxes and cathode sabers? Is there some bulk showing or has that been eliminated?

Update: nevermind. I just read you are using the HT predator body....uhmm, right?

Welcome to the party, pal! :chew

Thank you! You know, the last time I was this excited about something star wars, was when I went to Celebration IV here in L.A. Only very few things reignite the star wars flame in me (besides watching the movies), and this thread and Hurricane's artistry is one of them. Very inspiring!

Glad to be now a Vaderville resident.:vader:D

Glenn: These Vaders should come with some sort of certificate of authenticity, seriously.
