Two pre-orders. Damn. Fortunately, my daughter is only 17 months old, so I have many years to procrastinate before taking her college savings (or my retirement, for that matter) very seriously! :rock

I've started putting money away each month for my daughter's college... but honestly need to figure out some kind of long-term investment plan. I was talking with my brother and this year they reached a point where the money they put in should pay for my niece's education; she's only 9 :lecture

I need to get with that kind of a plan :rock

Seriously though, that is a concern. We move $200 a month over to her savings, but I'm not sure it's going to be sufficient. Inflation occurs at about 3% per year. Cost of college increases at around 8% per year (!). At that pace, the money you put in savings now has to be worth a hell of a lot more in the future to maintain it's relative value. And that means some sort of investment, but the stock market is ____ and more conservative investments will be lucky to match increases in inflation alone.

So. . .the only real solution is storing away bigger and bigger chunks of your income, and trying to make more money in the hopes that it will be enough or (in the case of our family), pray to the gods that your kid(s) will get a nice scholarship.

Our investment guy set up an account for our daughter that is supposed to work best for college savings by investing very liberally in the front end, and becoming more and more conservative as college time draws near.

That sounds about like the kind of plan we need to look into; basic interest would not cut it unless I was able to drop a major chunk of money rather than put it in slowly over time.

More like reality hit me in the face. My daughter is 7 now, so it's high time I really start saving for college. Only 11 years away. :horror

You're a good dad. My parents had jack and ____ for me when I hit 18. :lol

Me too!

This is hard to do when I see my 401k take a ____ on me.

I like where your heads are at fellas! :rock

Nah, just taking a nap... don't know about you guys but I'm preparing for a deluge of expensive 1/6 figures :lol

I've been hit by the Transformers bug again, but not vintage.

These new "3rd Party" figures are damn cool, but also expensive... I'm foregoing the Batmans and Jokers and what not. Cool, but just not really my thing, when it comes right down to it. Superman, though, is still preordered. :)

Same here, and I have a lot of student loan debt because of it. I'd like to spare my daughter as much of that as I can.

And hopefully she'll be more motivated acdemically and will qualify for academic scholarships.

Same for me. It's tough, because I really have to cut back on something, but can't make that kind of decision! I figure Hercules is gonna be worth the cost and trade offs, though.

Thanks for bringing us back to topic--all this talk with you breeders about saving money for your kids is depressing. :sleep

I have a bunch of old school WB Dakin figures in route--pics soon.:rock

I've been selling off Sideshow SW figures (only keeping Vader), a few extra Preds (only keeping Dutch and original), and a few other odds and ends... some extra 25th GI Joes I don't care about, a few other Transformers items, etc.

It's actually nice to get rid of some of this, to be quite honest. I need to refocus the collection anyway.

Already paid for the iGear Ironhide, Ratchet, and the Minibots, as well as Exgraver. I should be able to get the rest of the Hercules "not-Constructicons" without too much problem. I kind of want those iGear Coneheads though, too...

Only vintage items I'm selling is an extra Tomahawk (mint/unassembled/unapplied stickers w/mint box), an Action Force Tomahawk (almost the same look in the same condition, but with European box), Thunder Machine (mint/unapplied stickers in box), and a couple European figures - Stalker (the Euro Snake Eyes - I know, it's confusing) and Steeler.

These are all extras, though, that I've picked up over the years. Not selling any of my vintage collection otherwise! Hopefully I can get a bit of cash for these though...

The igear Coneheads are something I debated in my mind many times, but ultimately are among those that got the cut when "put up or shut up" time came around. I would like to have them, but the only MP Jets I really need are the OG crew of Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp. I'm also forcing myself not to buy DCUC figures (I bought the Crime Syndicate off Wal-Mart's website, but will return them), the Classic He-Man figures, or any of the new 25th Joes. Or at least, I can resist in most cases. Man-E-Faces was a must-buy, as will be Airtight and Reverse Flash :slap

Yeah, we seem to be more or less on the same page, though I've got the MOTUC sub so I can't pick and chose there.

As far as GI Joe stuff, only guys with the vintage character design for me, these days.

I'm still on the fence about the Coneheads. I could probably live with the OG three as well. I haven't put in the preorder for Thundercracker yet, though... he just seems so cartoony in the one pic we've seen so far...

I got into the MOTUC line, but ulitmately decided to axe them in favor of vintage items. I think they are a great series, but when space is an issue I have to give priority to vintage goodness.

I think more people would've stayed in that line had Mattel kept them more focused on the vintage line and not included all that other stuff.

Probably... not to mention all the headaches their ordering system seemed to cause. Although I generally just bought loose figures a few months after they came out to save money on shipping as $30 a figure felt pretty ridiculous for what I was getting.
