For those who suggest sticking to other company's products, like Medicom, I'd love to hear why you dislike Hot Toys.

It's actually quite the other way around here. I suggest you youtube some Hot Toys reviews and google up a list of all Hot Toys releases to pick out your favorite ones to youtube. There are many great reviewers on youtube... off the top of my head I recommend Hotchixcooltoyreview for a really professional looking review with great variety. Tell us what other interests you have, and we can better direct you.

Ouch. Sounds like there are some Tonner haters here, eh? I dunno. They do a nice job on their HP dolls. The likenesses aren't always spot on, but to me that's moreso because they're dolls versus ultra detailed figures, and I can deal with it. They do have that vacant-eyed expression that can get creepy. But it's hard to find decent HP figures. Medicom sadly only made Harry and Snape.

I personally don't stick with any particular company's products. I go with what I perceive to be the best quality for what I can afford, and with the companies that offer the best portrayal of the licenses and characters I'm into. In my relatively small collection I have figures from Hot Toys, Medicom, Enterbay, Dragon, Soldier Story, DiD/3r and Sideshow. With a couple of customs thrown in.

Firebird is right - get a Hot Toys figure and make up your own mind. If you don't make your own assessment of these figures the primary determinant in your purchasing decisions then you always leave yourself open to fanboy bs.

:goodpost: :exactly:

Buy because it's something you like not just because "it's hot toys"

I'd never buy something based on the brand name - I buy based on whether it's a license/character I love, but for some reason I just heard a slew of negative things lately in regards to Hot Toys, and it made me wonder whether the quality was worth the price. Well, I guess I'll probably just preorder Loki and find out.

Hot Toys already look better in photos... they'll be even better in-hand. Whatever QC issues they have is easily forgotten by the gap between Tonner and Hot Toys.

Do they? I figured the paint job on the prototype(s) shown in the product photos would be more impressive than the real in-hand product(s). That's how it seems to go for everything I buy.

I've never had any quality issues with Tonner, thankfully. At the price I'm paying, I'd be pretty peeved if there were a bunch of QC issues.

I have seen Tonner dolls, they have creepy eyes that may make you kill someone while they sleep...

conversely, Hot Toys action figures, may actually kill you in your sleep because they just look that damn real, and come with lots of accessories made for mayhem.

Is the skin texture on the actual product sold in stores anywhere near as detailed as the skin on the prototype?

HT figures look much better in person. I've bought 8 of them so far and the only issue I had was with Superman's Fortress of Solitude not wanting to fit together without some work.

LOL. Well, what I always kinda hated about Tonner is that the actual product often looked so different from the one photographed when it came to the hair and face. Aragorn looks all sorts of ridiculous in real life, whereas he isn't godawful (although not great) in their official photo.

Hot Toys is a quality and accurate product. Tonner is not. You're about to make a big upgrade. :hi5:

This is all setting up for AcidPop to receive the 1-in-however many HT figures that does have a QC issue :lol

hot toys to me really shines when it comes to there non human figures, such as predator and Ironman. The only human figure I've kept from hot toys is the bank robber Joker because they did such an awesome job with that release.

Just a bit of warning. the bodies can be fragile, my joker figures leg broke when I picked it up to clean the shelf, literally just fell off, but the same thing happened to my boba fett figure from medicom. It's just a risk you take when you buy these. It's just not something that happens with the non human figures which is why I like those so much, they are alot more durable.

I find it hard to see that same illusion of realism with non-human figures because they're just that, not real. They tend to look more toyish to me because of it. Predators especially.

Limbs never fall off... it would have to be some sort of extreme case. If it does fall off, no, it would not be easy (depending on the type of body).

Another thing about these figs is that getting replacements for free is very easy.
