Wanted: 1:1 scale headsculpt/bust?

Hey.

Does anyone know if it's possible to produce a 1:1 scale lifesize head sculpt from a 3d file (or the like?).

I'm working on a bust project right now that requires a 1:1 scale head of a character (Rick Grimes) that's been made many times over in 1/6 scale already. Is there any way to get one made 1:1?

For that kind of quality you'd need a fairly high end 3D printer, I would think. I had a PLA printer that was big enough to print a life size Boba Fett action figure in pretty large pieces including the full helmet, but the quality wouldn't be what you need. Your best bet might be to explore some 3D printing boards to see what options are out there for high-end Resin printers. If you don't mind some sanding work, a smaller resin printer could work and you'd just have to bond and blend the pieces together. Good luck!

It is possible, but a lot depends on layer height and print volume. Resin or filament? Resin printers that have a large enough volume to print a 1:1 head are pretty expensive, but the quality is going to be really nice. There are plenty of filament printers out there capable of handling the size, but quality is going to be an issue, and likely some cleanup work will be required.

Obviously, I don't know much in the way of 3D printing, so I'm not looking to do this myself. Just as a note. I'm not familiar at the moment of any commission artists/sculptors who work in life size pieces like this. I've bought life size busts in the past, but they weren't "by request".
