Considering we aren't expecting a sequel, the box office performance doesn't really matter, this is true.

But by any definition it definitely underperformed on opening weekend. It should have AT LEAST made as much as another adult comic book film by the same director released at the same time of year. There's no getting around that $70 mil that 300 made in it's first weekend.

It'll become a film like Blade Runner. Failing a bit in its theatrical run....but over time, and with other cuts avalible, it'll make all its money back. And will be a cult hit.

Saw it tonight! Went in totally blind, never read the book , had no idea what the story was about. I really enjoyed it! I liked it very much.Now, I want to go read the book!

300 is 117 minutes long.

So for argument's sake The 300 is just under 2 hrs. So a showing at 8:00 PM would essentially end and have another showing ready by 10:15 PM. While Watchmen which runs 2 hours and 45 minutes would have an 8:00 that wouldn't end until 10:45 and couldn't have another showing start until after 11:00 which limits the amount of showings that you can have in one particular night. Its apples and oranges comparing this film with others in terms of box office sales in a particular weekend.

That is what I figured too. Not a bad opening considering its running length and rating. R rating will always hurt a box office and with the film being 3 hours long, it can only be shown so many times.

Plus teenagers aren't helping. My brother went to this with me. Never read the book and he didn't like it and was confused. So what did he do, tell all of his friends it sucked. Stupid teenagers and not understanding.

I had the same issue. But the friend that wanted to go enjoyed it, and so did another kid I know...so there is hope.

Same for me, but... it was ok, doesn't make me want to read the comics or buy figures from it. Got to say it was uncomfortable to watch in parts. I took my son (20 next month) to see it. I had to bite my tongue not to make a "blue balls" comment. I didn't expect to see full frontal male, or bumping uglies on screen.

I'm really curious but what is so wrong with full frontal male nudity that isnt also wrong with full frontal female nudity? A body is a body. All that's different is what skin and muscle goes where.

i personally think its tasteless to have full frontal regardless of gender.
