The detail on this is off the charts :yess:...looks fantastic. :clap

The big issue with this will be how they produce the eye...would not like to be the one to work that one out. :dunno

Great job Weta...looks like a winner to me. :yess:

Yep agreed, and if it's there, it needs to be done well IMHO. :wink1:

Can't wait to see how they produce it. :impatient:

It could make the piece something even more special, if they get it right.

Amazing!!!! :clap:clap But does anyone else think the vest looks to much like a life jacket? Oh wait...wrong thread. :monkey3

Like all WETA's other environments this is a must buy.

Loks fab!
Oh dear, my poor wallet...
We are really being spoiled this year folks.

Yes we are being spoiled and I have sold quite a number of Hot Toys figures these last few months in order to fund my new love for LOTR Sculpts and environments...even a few more hours here and there at work and after all my bills are paid between all my LOTR related stuff and Sideshow PF Pre-orders this year which is plenty and growing...I only have enough money to my name for food and clothes...but must say as long as I have enough money for food it is very much worth it. :D

I kinda hope Sideshow starts holding off on LOTR PF's but then again at the same time I feel the opposite as I have got to have them...now this company I am just recently finding out about called "Weta" is putting out some awesome stuff. I wonder if this cycle will ever end...and more importantly; do I ever want it to. :gandalf_w

i think the eye is pretty easy no? something like below will be satisfactory. That's the $99 danbury version.

I used to have the DM version along with the Minas Tirith. The eye had more of a 'novelty' feature as it was set atop a small bulb in the top of the tower.
I think making a passable replica of a ball of flame with a cat type eye in it floating atop a tower is very tricky :lecture

But....if anyone can manage it, WETA can :wink1:

It's a catch 22 I'm afraid :)

Wow, even in that small pic of Weta's Barad-Dur you can see just how much more sharp the detail is compared to the DB version.
I sold my DB Barad-Dur last fall - I sure hope that I can afford this one.

This is looking EPIC! Can't wait for the full reveal to see how HUGE/DETAILED this piece is. I also sold off my Danbury Barad-Dur and Minas Tirith late last year. Glad I did as this piece will DEFINITELY top that...and I feel the MT/MM environments aren't too far behind. :hi5:

A sculpted eye would look fine i think.... Weta can do sculpted fire, just look at their Balrog statues :balrog :ogat

The reason people are panicking is because the DM version does look cheap because it's just a screen-grab cut out and stuck in a bit of plastic. No detail to it at all.

unfortunately no, a sculpted eye would look really bad. There are two ways to approach this i think:

1) An acrylic/glass piece with an internal led that lights up

2) A pure glass eye with the details inside, something similar to below but obviously in a different shape and with the eye inside. So when you shine the display light on it, it looks like it was on fire...

The worst is a plastic cut out like they did with the rivendale's roof, the second worst is a regular painted polystone eye.

Sculpted eye or a clear resin type eye would work just fine. I have complete faith in weta that it will look amazing as have all their environments. This is among the items I'm mod looking forward to seeing at sdcc.

As long as the eye is removable i'll be happy,no eye for me thanks but i can understand others wanting it,so please make it removable Weta

It looks decent...not sure I'm into it completely. It appears to be all the same color. The Danbury Mint version did a nice job of color variation to give it a little life. We'll see with the full reveal...I remain skeptical yet optimistic.

Given hoe they did Orthanc we can expect this to be monotone as well I think. Hopefully the lava will make it pop.

I thought so too but we haven't seen much of it yet and i have faith!

Danbury Mint - colour variation? That thing's a mess of colours.
