Actually, several people have mentioned the auction idea...

From the Diane Kamahele Memorial Fund page...

Special Memorial Auctions: Details Coming Soon

Wouldn't these two pieces have been a wonderful opportunity to begin the memorial auctions? Just a thought...

This, to my way of thinking, would have been the perfect solution. I can't imagine anyone being upset with SS, had they chosen to take this path.

Really?! Of course they know, they have an entire article dedicated to secondary values in their latest catalog - their limited edition products.

:wave

That article doesn't specifically single out Strider statue now, does it?

:wave

I don't get it, are you suggesting that Sideshow is aware of the secondary values of the Balrog, Samaritan prop etc; but not Aragorn? How could they know about a few and not all? All you need to do is re-read the actual email blast to see that this isn't the case.

Oh, and the auction would have been a marvelous idea!

Congrats Tristram!

And kudos to Sideshow for absolutely making two collector's day on this!
There were only a couple of them for goodness sakes, and I'd say this mini "contest" was as good as anything else for distributing them at original msrp. Really amazing - Sideshow is the #1 fan friendly collector's manufacturer, hands down. :peace

Thank you! It really did make my day! :D

Whew . . .Ok, so we're all in agreement that a charitable auction is the way Sideshow should have taken. That does sound better too. It's a win-win because whoever wins it is guaranteed to be the uber die hard fan among us.

As for me, I'm still coordinating a way to wire my PC straight from Sideshow's email servers. Relocating next to them might be in the works. I don't like leaving chance to email.

Then again, WHEN (not if) Sideshow goes the charitable auction route, all this planning of mine would be moot.

Your last question makes no sense. The norm is to know something about something. Nobody knows everything about something. So if SS knows about sec market value of Balrog and Samaritan (and who doesn't?), that in no way implies that they keep track of secondary market values on everything else. If they did, they would feel shamed in offering "30% off Eowyn statue, grab it while it's hot!" :monkey5

They are completely aware of the secondary value of all of the items they release. Discounts on items that aren't moving has nothing to do with that.

It would seem to be the more fair method, but I am almost certain we would have many an EU member complain about the time of the newsletter's release. I know you wouldn't be in that camp (based on your UHSS purchase), but some most certainly would.

There were an UHSS up for second chance in the newsletter?

:crying
