So, could they not put it together on a Thursday and then send it out on the Friday - with automated systems, there wouldn't have to be someone in the office to do this - it would mean the EU getting something first of course - you can still plan in advance, as you'll get it at a specified time on the Friday. Just "putting the shoe on the other foot" - would you be happy to receive the newsletter in the US after the EU??

I'm totally with you Crazytrain!!!!

But that will never happen! :monkey2

i would love to get a kick ass company here in the EU and have they put out their newsletter att 4 am in the states!

I can just hear the whining!

Why should the EU get the newsletters first? SS is a US company and it would make no sense for the EU to get anything first before US. If this was an EU or Asian based company I would fully expect it to be the other way.

I'm not saying they should or shouldn't, just asking how you would feel if the EU got it first - then you might appreciate where we're coming from... :)

We're effectively having a "live" chat at the moment - you're in the US and I'm in the UK, so there is scope to change the time of newsletter delivery when we could both read it at the same time - as Calle pointed out, I would be happy to pick up the newsletter at work as I can make time to get online - I'm not saying thats when it should happen, merely reiterating Calle's point that it would be okay... Again, it wouldn't particularly help people in the rest of the world, so its a bit of a moot point, but as I said above I just wondered how you would feel if things were the other way around, thats all...

whine, whine, whine

If all you have to moan about a company is the time of the newsletter then that's pathetic

why don't you try collecting gentle giant's stuff and then you maybe won't be so unappreciative

sorry if harsh but you don't play a game of football and then after 20 mins decide you hate the rules & change them do you.....deal with it

what are french or something? :D

ARRG!!! I'm not saying that it is a time that is good for everyone!!!

All I say is that it'll probably be one when not half the world is asleep!!

like if it came out at 5 pm gmt, it would be like 9 in the morning for you in the US... I know it isn't good for you since it's your work hours.

but atleast you wouldn't be asleep and completly unable to receive it, and it is during SS work hours so they wuoldn't be unable to get it out!!

(I know that 5 happens fit me very well but as you know many in the world are awake!!)

I ain't putting their stuff down, just illustrating the differences in customer service

try talking to GG and you get a wall of silence & seem to go out their way to frustrate their collectors with Japanese exclusive with es of 500 etc

I do understand. I really do.

Yeah, we are. Its 9:45 am here in the states. That's great you can read it at work. I cannot. The school district I work for blocks SS site so I can't buy anything nor look at their site during my work day. So putting it out during the work day is not a good thing since I know there are plenty of places like here that block sites like SS. During the time of day the newsletter comes out reaches the majority of their base.

It would suck as I said but I would understand since I'm half a world away from the place that's doing it.

The newsletter comes out on Thursday evenings sometime after 6:00 PM PST. It usually comes within one hour, and only on a rare occurrence, does it come later than that. I would hazard a guess, that 90% of the time, it arrives between 6:30 and 6:45 PM PST.

Thanks for the info. L...

You would understand, okay, but that doesn't mean you'd be happy with it :)

Thats all I was trying to say...

Anyway, forget about Aragorn, where's the next PF?! :D (and 12"??!! :D :D )

Well, I'm convinced that if the US customers had to pay our prices, many would stop collecting!!

I have several times had to seek out items in Europe to complete a collection. The shipping almost cost as much as the item itself. It unfortunately does go both ways. When selling to an overseas buyer, I used to only offer USPS Express Mail. I have since starting offering Airmail Parcel Post and in some cases, the dreaded Surface Mail trying to help reduce the overall cost for the overseas buyer. :monkey3

Just had another thought though Josh - what happens when theres a preorder up - I get it here at 6pm (which is great for me) so what time do you get it and how do you get to order things if your work site is barred  (and yes I do know how that feels as our IT setup intermittently blocks both SS and SS Freaks!)?

I call it in if it happens on a day when I have an extra break in my class load. If it doesn't have a friend order it for me through my account.

I got my e-mail way after these were gone. No biggie. I'm glad a hardcore SS/W collector got one! Hooray!

I think a second chance offer is the best way at these things. Everyone in the world knows (or should know) when the newsie comes out every week. You snooze... you lose.

Congrats Tristram!

And kudos to Sideshow for absolutely making two collector's day on this!
There were only a couple of them for goodness sakes, and I'd say this mini "contest" was as good as anything else for distributing them at original msrp. Really amazing - Sideshow is the #1 fan friendly collector's manufacturer, hands down. :peace

This thread has gotten pretty long!

I should say that while I missed Aragorn, I am not bitter. This is not a piece that I have been looking for. I recognize its value but haven't been wanting to add it to my collection forever. I would have picked it up at this price, but it doesn't kill me that I missed it.

I understand that people are frustrated when any company chooses a sales method that requires you to be at your computer 24/7 in order to buy something. I can relate to--and often share--that frustration. The thing is that in this situation, I was sitting in front of my computer--with my e-mail software open and automatically refreshing itself. My mail came quite late and I was bummed but not angry. If this happened on an item I really wanted like an Orthanc, you had bet I would be upset. Now in this case, there were only two available, so regardless of how fast you clicked, the third person was going to get the same result as the 30th or 300th. Obviously no method would have pleased more than two people so in this case a different method wasn't really going to help anybody.

I just think that in general, the move towards web based announcements that we have seen in the past year or two has come as a result of the complaints and frustration experienced by those whose e-mails got held up by as much as 24 hours before being delivered--regardless of your connection speed. Sideshow wanted things to be as fair as possible and so they made the switch to a simultaneous online release of information and I personally think that things have been 100 times better since then. (Yes, some people might still have slow dialup, but there is something you can personally do about that. I upgraded to DSL, but that still doesn't help my e-mail get through my multiple service providers any faster. There is nothing I can do about that. Getting a new address was suggested and I now have three and my main one is still the first to receive Sideshow mail.) With a newsletter announcement, I can personally take steps to have the best and fastest internet connection possible and to be online and waiting to read the newsletter--that's all my responsibility and I can't blame anybody but myself if I don't do those things. Any advantages should be the result of my preparation and determination and dedication, not blind luck and chance.

Other people might actually prefer blind luck and chance. I'll take it once in a while, but over time I prefer a method to the madness. In general, I think that mass e-mails are a step backwards for Sideshow.

The good news? First, the fact that they put them up in the first place, as Matt pointed out. Sideshow has trustworthy warehouse staff. Second? At least one of these things went to a collector who really wanted it and is going to display it proudly in his collection. He will always have a great story to tell about how he got his hands on it. That's a happy ending!

I wonder if SS knew the secondary market value of this piece? Maybe they didn't know.

I think the best method would have been to reserve this piece for a competition of sorts but yeah, if I had been on the spot for this one, I'd be smiling BIG TIME for a LONG TIME. It IS nice to know that at least one of the two went to someone who really appreciates it.

Also, selling them off for charity would have been a nice gesture too... isn't that what "Collect for Life" is about?

Really?! Of course they know, they have an entire article dedicated to secondary values in their latest catalog - their limited edition products.

Wouldn't these two pieces have been a wonderful opportunity to begin the memorial auctions? Just a thought...
