Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Its kind of hard to believe that it has been over a year since these were first proposed.

I think we are close to the finish line on these - seems like WGP has a lot of irons in the fire and has had some trouble with reliable casters over the past months - hopefully sme of the folks they have recruited will stick with them through future projects to improve turnaround time?

As for future Trek, here's my humble suggestion: Let's finish off the core Trek characters: Uhura, McCoy, Spock, Chekov, Chapel with serious/neutral expressions (oh! and also would LOVE the salt-lovin' alien that was hinted at ages ago!). Then move on to TNG core characters while continuing to roll out some "supplemental" TOS heads: variants like smiling McCoy, bemused Spock (eyebrow raised), Mirror Spock, Mirror Sulu, Drunken Sulu; aliens like Kang, Kor, Trelaine, Romulan Commander (Male and Female), Andorian Ambassador, Telarite Ambassador; and supplemental characters like Sarek and Amanda, Harry Mudd, Marlena Moreau. Then move on to DS9 core characters while releasing variants/aliens/supplemental characters from TNG, i.e. Season6/7 Worf, beardless Riker, Cheerleader/bunhead Troi, Tasha Yar, Lore, Q, Lwaxana Troi, Sela, Locutus...and so on.

The thing I hope WGP can see is that while some other properties they are working on may be "hotter" than Trek right now, Trek has a very rich, expansive cast of characters that die hards (like myself) would kill to own in 1/6 scale. Plus there is a new Trek movie on the way (would also be fertile ground for new sculpts) that will drum up future excitement for the property.

Soooo, bring on Kirk, Rand, Sulu, Scotty and let's get things rolling again! :yess:

I like the way you think. I'd put in the VOY bridge crew as well. The series wasn't as strong as the other three, but it's grown on me over the years. That plus you've gotta have a hot 7 of 9. I'd love to have a 1:6 Star Trek line that will rival the breadth of the Sideshow Star Wars line.

Well, yeah, I didn't mean to exclude Voyager (Or Enterprise, for that matter), I just thought the pattern of projects I was proposing would carry over for these shows as well. To my mind, it sorta makes sense to go in the order the series were aired. Of course a high quality seven of nine would be a very desirable figure, as would some of the other main characters from that show and Enterprise.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Honestly I would be cool with one of each captain from each show. I think that would make a great display.

Any new news on these?

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Three weeks and no answer? Doesn't bode well for them having been shipped.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

:gah:
So does this mean those of us who paid for heads months ago can expect to receive these and, if so, when?

Great question. I would like to know too.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Need paymrnt info for Yoeman HS....
Thanks Ron

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Any info on these? I know they were waiting to be picked up from the PO a couple of weeks ago but haven't heard anything since. I know some of us have had at least one of these paid for for over a year now and are starting to get a little nervous that we may never see anything.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Hey everyone,

Wanted to get back here and spend some time answering some questions. Sorry for the lapse in communication. Some pretty big things have been happening behind the scenes here taking up a lot of time.

The first shipments with BA Kirk, Rand, Scotty, and Sulu were mailed last week and should start arriving to customers Monday (if they are in the US). The rest are being mailed out this week.

I know some of us have had at least one of these paid for for over a year now and are starting to get a little nervous that we may never see anything.

It's not unusual for a project to need a few corrections or have a few hang ups, but dude, for whatever reason Trek had had the entire universe laughing at it every step of the way. It has been very upsetting and frustrating for us. It's very public and I can't apologize enough.

First the heads were printing out distorted and we've never had that happen before and couldn't figure out why. Then we had a new professional caster we were using since we had so many heads we needed cast and he didn't work out. Fortunately our regular caster Lonnie Hale was free by then and able to do them. He is a big Trek fan and one of the industries first customizers who dies casting now. He wrote me twice to confirm he felt the the heads and neck lengths were perfect and how gorgeous they are. Knock on wood. We are anxious to hear your opinions!

I think we are close to the finish line on these - seems like WGP has a lot of irons in the fire and has had some trouble with reliable casters over the past months - hopefully some of the folks they have recruited will stick with them through future projects to improve turnaround time?

Two out of three of them haven't worked out, but by necessity we are still trying new ones! One project can tie a moldmaker/caster up for months.

For any project we do, the sculpting of the head is the shortest part of it. It is the usually the seamstresses or the casters (with a few exceptions) that kill us. Ideally once a head is done it can be printed and be at the casters within a MONTH. Thats it. From there in it's in the casters hands (their availability, how many are needed, etc).
So ideally, if the caster is available and fast, the first casts should be out within the first month and a half after being sculpted.

Despite the painful long delays with the first two waves here, we are in with Trek for the long haul. We promised we would do the whole cast and we will be going back to do more of the original crew in 2013 to finish them up as long as the interest lists are there). I expect those will pick up once finished pieces are out there.

Honestly I would be cool with one of each captain from each show. I think that would make a great display.

That is an awesome idea, but from our end we would need to make those costumes too to really push them and we don't currently have the resources. Still, as long as they get 16 interested, we'll make them, costume or not. Thats our feeling about doing the other series as well.

Dealing with tailors/seamstress and casters are the bane of my existence. The seamstresses/tailors we have at our disposal are very talented but few, slow and frequently make me want to cry (re: I want my Galactica costumes, already!). And clearly they are not a part of this forum-laugh.

We cycle through many potential new tailors each year who inevitable can't do "1:6" scale and quit answering E-mails and disappear into the night with another 1:6 body they were using a base after wasting 5 months on it. This is why we started doing a ton of threads as being for "heads only" like the classic crew.

Things change monthly here though. At WGP we outsource a ton of help. We have a lot of sculptors, tailors, etc that grows and wanes depending on availability. We actually just took on two new head sculptors this week (which is awesome!)

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Rick, thanks for the update! Can't wait to find these treats in the mailbox! :yess: I was really impressed with the way "Potty One" (still love that name) came out, so I'm excited to see the results firsthand of these first Trek offerings - looking forward to see what y'all come up with for Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Chekov, and Chapel in 2013...

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Thanks for the info. Looking forward to getting Kirk.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Here's a shot of the new Scotty head with slimmer neck. The first one was appropriate for when he got husker, but not THIS early on in the series.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

I got home tonight and there was a small box waiting for me. Low and behold the wait is over. BA Kirk has shown his face and what an amazing likeness it is. This is going to make a great figure. I can't wait to start working on it.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

BA Kirk and Rand are here. These are my first WGP heads since Doctor Who #2. What a long, long way we've come. Beautiful. Thanks Rick, and thanks again for the help...;)

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

By the way, anyone have any suggestions for which bodies to use for these?
