Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Quick thought:

Hey Spenser, any way you could work a little photoshop magic to scale up that Scotty head to the size of that other head (or maybe ever just a hair larger) so we can see how that would look on the body in your pic? That might give Rick a better idea of the size to aim for. Also thinking the neck could be shortened a few mm, to give the shoulders a more "squared-off" appearance?

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Spenser, that's great, illustrates the point perfectly! See how Scotty's head looks too small on that body, particularly with regard to the size of the hands. I remember years ago my art teacher said, proportionately, a face is roughly the size of a hand. Scale up the Trek boys to around the size of the other head Spenser is holding and we should have a winner!

Thanks for the pic Spense! The paint up and uni look sweet! With regards to the hands and head size, this is where it gets muddy. Normal Hot Toy hands are total over-sized gorilla hands and are not proportionate to a real body. In fact I can't stand them. So any sizing on these babies can not be by HT hands.

The the other thing is that Scotty is pretty exact in size to the HT head I measured from. I have them both in my hand now. Of the three male Trek heads he was the one that came out dead-on. I personally think the head looks okay on the body till you see those hands (and those ruin most figures I have), so if he's still looking too small to you guys for a HT body and he's actual HT size, , then that gives an idea how how much larger/extreme the re-sized heads need to be.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

I apologize for the really terrible editing but I was curious and just goofing around. Here's Scotty with head scaled up from 100% to 106% normal size, just to give a rough idea of how it might look:

I think that works better, yes?

WST is right the HT hands are a bit large, so not the best reference point. I would say Scotty’s head need to be a tad bigger after the hair is taken down a bit, but also the face seems a little small on the head, so maybe beef up the features. It’s a very strange kind of anomaly.

And yes the necks could be taken down a good bit. I removed almost half the neck myself, that would save in resin.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

We need some real pics of Scotty to see how the size if his head in real life us in proportion to his body

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

If you guys want larger than that, well then they will all need to be reprinted. For you gents who bought them already, we wouldn't be looking to make more money off of you so would charge a very low rate on the characters you already bought just to get this realized. Maybe just $15 a head plus shipping?

Were the two Kirk headsculpts (1 Badass + 1 *** you up) I bought from you shipped already? I wouldn't want them undersized so please ship the corrected size.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

I was sent this comparison pic earlier today, so maybe this will help.

I still think this project is headed in the right direction. Scale can just be a tricky $%#&!. Maybe the printer needs some additional reference heads for comparison to assist with outputting.

I think the size it was printed out would look better on a slim or narrow body.

Good point. Is this Scotty on a muscled body? Because those HT heads are larger, yes? Most people would be using HT narrow/slim bodies.

BTW- I have a ***-you-up Kirk that originally printed out larger and is ironically at the size we seem to be talking about. I will drill his neck this weekend so I can fit him on a body and show him off this weekend for opinions. I also have the original Bad *** Kirk print (before re-sculpt) the same way I can show. :)

Wow, they really goosed the size of the head up for Gambit. The one on the other end is Gyllanhal from the muscled body?

Slim would be ideal for McCoy, Spock, I think Scott would work on a narrow (Scotty was not really muscular at all, a bit stocky in the torso, but not muscular). Still think the head needs to be scaled up a bit, more like the "Gambit" head in the comparison shot, but that's just my opinion. Can't wait to see Rick reveals of the larger "***-you-up" Kirk and the original BA Kirk sculpt as it printed out! Should be cool and insightful! Thanks for putting up with us kicking around these ideas, Rick, we're just trying to fine-tune an already great project. :clap

We'll get it all worked out together. The Trek head sizes will actually effect (help determine) the Classic Galactica head sizes, because while those did print at HT size, we wanted them bigger because those jackets are a bit bulky. We'll see how those previously printed two Trek heads look size-wise and plan from there. :) :hi5:

Good to know because I'm in for Galactica line as well. From the looks of the photos the scale of the printouts look to be 1:7 scale or so compared to the HT heads. The good news is that they should pick up a little more detail at the larger size.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Well something was still bothering me about the Kirk Head and I took another look at it and did this comparison and I saw right away it was the hair line. Even if the head was widened a bit the hair line is still off, it needs to be lowered a bit. What do you guys think?
