If you guys want larger than that, well then they will all need to be reprinted. For you gents who bought them already, we wouldn't be looking to make more money off of you so would charge a very low rate on the characters you already bought just to get this realized. Maybe just $15 a head plus shipping?

Were the two Kirk headsculpts (1 Badass + 1 *** you up) I bought from you shipped already? I wouldn't want them undersized so please ship the corrected size.

Also, do you guys expect people to pay again if we bought the undersized ones? I don't like the idea of that, sorry not trying to be rude. But how was I supposed to know these were undersized when I paid?

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Sean, I really think all that Spenser means is that working digitally, you have the advantage of being able to "save" versions as you go along, so you can try a variation nondestructively (as the Photoshop peeps like to say). If he tried to do in clay what he's recommending -- widening a sculpt -- he'd probably have to start over, and the time already put in would be lost. Thus, "more work [time]."

You guys are too talented to get ruffled feathers. We all need to laugh a bit about how we only get this tense when the work is approaching perfection. If it was crappy, nobody would care. The better it is, the more nuclear the forum gets.

Of course, Ol' Mister Love-and-Peace here has 23 users on my ignore list...:peace

LOL! Well, please don't put me on your ignore list, gruff old bear, because I like what you have to say and the way you say it. Ruffled feathers suck. Sense of humor is good. I think folks have gotten tensed up, defensive, and angry because of some thoughtlessly worded comments. Just take a moment and breathe, guys. WGP have created something really special and are willing to listen to feedback to improve upon what they've done so far - that accommodating spirit is a rare and wonderful thing. :clap I think our input should be polite, concise, clearly presented, and within realistic expectations. Spenser has made some valid points about the proportions on the final, printed heads - I don't think he was trying to be mean-spirited. His comment on digital printing, within the context of this conversation, seemed to imply that modifying an existing sculpt is a bit easier than it is with a physical medium like clay, not that clay is a superior medium. The wording may have seemed a bit brusque, but I took that to be a result of the heated atmosphere the discussion seems to have taken. Let's turn down the heat, fellas - it is the holidays, after all! :)

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Plus it’s a lot more expensive :lecture

When you have to pay multiple times to have a head reprinted and they again have to pay to cast it plus the time it takes to do this it is far from easier :gah:

That’s not a jibe at you Spence its just so people can see that this is not just a simple reprint it is a lengthily and costly process.

Hang in there guys :1-1:

Sculpting within a computer is just a different medium than clay, sculpting is sculpting and it is about the skill which is involved rather than the tools which are used. If you were to alter a pre existing head then you could easily add and take away clay in much the same way you would add and take away 'digital' clay. Obviously creating a new head, whether it be physically or digitally would take longer.

I respect your work Spenser, you are a talented artist but please don't knock the way that other artists work

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

No, not knocking the digital process at all, I admire the skill it takes. I would love to try it actually, I just fear the learning curve would drive me crazy.

Here is the answer, which sounds fair to me

Any additional charge would be making more money though, wouldn't it?

Good point - so let me break this down so people do not think we are making money from making additional new heads

- we need to pay the sculptor for the time it takes him to resize and make any alterations the trekkies have agreed on
- we need to pay for the head to be printed
- we need to pay for the new head to be remolded
- finally we need to pay for each cast which the molder makes for us

We will not make ANY profit in creating new amended heads to those who have already paid (all payments will go toward paying for these new costs), and expect only a few more customers to come on board after they have been made (which we could of sold the original heads to anyway) so really, if we do this we would be doing it for you guys, and to strive toward producing the best heads.

Believe me though, it would be much easier for us just to leave them as they are since we could use this time focusing on other projects which would give us a profit! But we love Trek :)

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Really wish that WGP was using traditional sculptors. I am an avid fan of a lot of the properties you are taking on, but digital sculpts just don't do anything for me. The actual prints never look as good as the digital image, and across the board there seems to be issues with getting heads printed at the right size. This seems to happen with all digital sculpts not just WGP.I keep watching your threads in hopes that you get the kinks worked out.

How long will the turn around time take to get the new heads?

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

It doesn't sound fair to me that I have to pay extra because they printed undersized headsculpts. I was not aware of this when I made my payment. If they've made a mistake they can't expect us to pay for it. Again, not trying to be rude but I'm feeling kinda ripped off here.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

Vague but honest answers:
How soon the mods get scupted depends on how soon we can squeeze it into Seans schedule because his day job is very booked. Hopefully soon. How long printing takes afterwards is a seperate thing that depends on how booked the printer is at the time, which can take between a week to a month and if there is any problems printing the heads. Then the heads need to have sizes verified and be cleaned. Then casting takes 1-2 months depending on how many differnet heads they are making and quantities needed of each.

To start everything off I will be showing the older, previously mentioned Kirk heads that had printed accidentally larger from an earlier print run. I will hopefully have time to drill the head to fit it on a body tomshow it off on this Sunday. Ironically I think these are the sizes everyone is wanting us to hit. If people like the size we can proceed from there.

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

If the original heads wind up actually being the size that should have been made, does that eliminate the remod and reprinting time? If they already exist it should just be a matter of casting them, no?
Otherwise, would a rough estimate, from past experience, be 2-4 months, minimum?

Re: WGP's Classic Star Trek (being cast now)

While waiting for my new uniform I did some touch ups to the head. Here is my final paint app.

For the original three male Trek heads we made, Scotty is dead on to the size we intended and the pic had been posted for months next to the Hot Toys head we sized him against with Sulu. Sulu is a little smaller but acceptable to us. He is in that same picture. I thought Kirk might be too small. He was shown with everyone else. The scale doesn't look horrible together. Lonnie Hale, our caster who stands to make a lot more money from us if we were to re-print and cast the heads again though him, wrote me and then also called me again a week later to say he really thought the heads were perfect and not to reprint Kirk or touch a thing. He has made hundreds of heads. He is also a collector. I trust him.

And when the Trek heads were released there was not a lot of negative feedback coming to us about the head sizes out of all the heads that had been purchased. Thats how we gauge things. Thats how other people who have been waiting to decide if they want to order gauge things. By the feedback. Looked like Lonnie was right.
From comments people were happy.

One or two complaints will happen for any projects no matter what you do. That's just going to happen. All of this feedback about size didn't really happen until I asked everyone, then more and more people hopped on or just liked the idea of larger sizes. Now everyone is excited and are asking them to be sized even larger than the intended size. Thats cool. I love the feedback and everyone acting like a community. And if people want mods too, thats cool as well.

If thats what the majority wants and we're all being friendly here, sure, we'll make them that much larger. And we'll make tweaks. The downside is that it means all the heads will need to be bumped up to this new scale across the Trek board. And it means the new scale the group votes on will be the new scale for this line going forward because we are not running two different sized lines. It's one or the other. We don't have the time to service both.
