Re: WGP's RAIDERS Jones- first "Trad" & "WTH" head pics revealed!

I thought that the removable hat was going to be made later on??! :dunno

Re: WGP's RAIDERS Jones- first "Trad" & "WTH" head pics revealed!

The traditional is too serious-Indy would still have a touch of playfullness in his expression. The WTH has the upper lip curled too much. The WTH facial expression is more of a slightly dropped lower lip look to it.

The only thing i notice that may be throwing off the likeness is the eyes. IMO they need to have a bit more of a squint. I did a slight PS manip in the second pic.

Re: WGP's RAIDERS Jones- first "Trad" & "WTH" head pics revealed!

I think they are great! I do agree some work needs to be done. Not sure what yet... I'll think about it... I, sure a few tweaks it will be spot on perfect like the smiling ones.

The WtH is my least fav of the three... Not sure the expression is translating the way it should. He looks too silly like hes being goofy or crazy and not that sarcastic slyness that he has from the reference pic...

Re: WGP's RAIDERS Jones- first "Trad" & "WTH" head pics revealed!

Why do people keep asking for a removable hat version ?? It's really leaving me shaking my head... I just don't see how this could work... The hot toys gave him two hairs for this very reason so the hat fit on and looked proper.

The hat is going to look huge... Trust me guys what you want is just a hatless head and then you just have a loose hot toys hat around to pose with him if needed.

Re: WGP's RAIDERS Jones- first "Trad" & "WTH" head pics revealed!

These are all great likenesses of HF, but I'm not feeling any of the expressions.
the trad is a little TOO serious
The WTF looks more PO d than astonished. May be it's just that an accompanying eye expression is missing

Agreed that something seems a tiny bit off - not the likeness, but the expressions. Traditional is too serious, like a mask - maybe a bit of "play" around the eyes...mischievousness? Cockiness? And WTF head - don't think it's the eyes, they seem concerned. The PO'ed look, I think is from the set of the left side of the mouth. I can't put my finger on it.

Need to throw this question out there now - could we get a hatless version of trad Indy? I need a head for my "Tanis Maproom" Indy, and I don't want to 'settle' for the HT one. :lol

Ray,
to explain a couple of factors
In this case since this is an independant artist, the removeable hat is not a deal breaker for me.
1--What I'm suggesting is at least the cut off at the forehead, ship separately, glue yourself 2 pieces. The reason being it is easier to paint the forehead, eyebrows, eyes etc. Paint the hat separately and then glue on. Velvet Morning did it this way with Blondie. Mr Barlow did it this way with "Harmonica"
2-- Draw backs of the fixed one piece hat. ---It's un-natural. We all get "hat-hair" when we've taken off our hats. If the head was molded witht the hat on there is no way to tilt it forward or backward as someone earlier suggeted setting the hat tilted back. Frontline made a series of "Good, Bad & Ugly" characters. The hats sit fine on the "hat-hair" heads. If you wanted to tilt hat back, a little dremeling and reinforing and you can make it the way you want.
3-- I recently had a little accident with a molded on hat Indy. While putting the head on the neck-ball joint, I pressed down a little hard, I guess in the wrong place and cracked the hat brim
4-- If Indy were to fall victim to a shelf dive: Removeable hat would probably fall off and land separately; attached hat---all of the weight will land right on it.
5-- I you don't want to remove Indy's hat, you can always glue it to his head.
I don't think anyone is asking for a stylish hair-do, unless they want to do the Professor Indy. The other fella wants one for the map room turban.

Hope this explains this point of view.

Re: WGP's RAIDERS Jones- first "Trad" & "WTH" head pics revealed!

I think the WTH expression in the source picture is more one of exhaustion, unbelievability, and a hint of confusion. The CG version looks to be lacking the exhaustion component, for sure, and looks more like pure confusion. It is the definition of a "what the hell?" look, but I'm not sure that is exactly what is going on in the source picture. The closed teeth look makes him look a bit more tense/cartoony and less fed up/realistic. Evokes Shaggy from Scooby Doo more than Indiana Jones/Harrison Ford IMO.

Love the traditional version, though I think the Small Studios mod may be a slight improvement. Pretty sure I'll pick one of those up when all is said and done.

Re: WGP's RAIDERS Jones- first "Trad" & "WTH" head pics revealed!

I think this would be a good idea also. The same way that the Sideshow Indy head was made.
It makes it a lot easier to add details to the eyes and to paint the hat.

Re: WGP's RAIDERS Jones- first "Trad" & "WTH" head pics revealed!

It does! And I agree, the point about the hat being separate from the head is actually what I assumed would be the case all along... Someone else posted after yours about a removable hat version to come out later?

Here's hoping this set does come as two pieces, those eyes would be almost impossible to get at otherwise

The slightly modded eyes help - the first one, the eye are a bit "flat", they don't quite convey Indy's character, but the likeness is spot on. It's just a matter of getting the sculpt to "act"...

And, for my purposes, hatless Indy doesn't have to have perfect hair - he's gonna be swaddled up in robes. Just want the face to be perfect!

Re: WGP's RAIDERS Jones- first "Trad" & "WTH" head pics revealed!

WOW, all 3 of these Indy faces are off to a great start. Really provides some great variation in the character.

I agree with most of the points being made here about 'too much teeth' or 'not enough squint'...I also agree about the hat being separate to allow for more detailed paint-up of the eyes/brows/forehead without having to work 'under' the brim of the hat...I also find that paint-ups tend to look more slick if the hat and head can be painted separately instead of together -- no 'wiggly' paint line tracing the contour of the hat.

I'll definitely have to get all 3 of these for my ROTLA Indy bashes.

PS, and plans in the future for TOD and (especially) TLC Indy sculpts?

Re: WGP's RAIDERS Jones- first "Trad" & "WTH" head pics revealed!

It would be great if the sculpt could be separated from the fedora, ,much easier to paint . Making these available separately without the fedora would be an option I'm sure that a lot of people ( myself included) would go for so that they could pose the hat whichever way they choose.

Re: WGP's RAIDERS Jones- first "Trad" & "WTH" head pics revealed!

I think that the best head is smiling Ford so far.
Yet I would like to get exact this one.

But I'm really confused with the look of the joint area. I think it could be made MUCH more better to fit HT Muscular Body. Now it looks way far from perfection, like it was made by HT in far-far 2006:

Not the same sculpt :dunno

Hi everybody. First off, as always I wanted to thank you all for thoughtful responses and suggestions to the WIP's. We really do value your input.

I understand that you will not be making a removeable hat, but will the head and hat be shipped separate to make it easier to paint ?

You mean something like this? ;)
Indyheadpeg.jpg

This is quick mock-up, but yes, it will be shipping in two separate parts for easier painting. :)

I thought that the removable hat was going to be made later on??! :dunno

If there is enough demand, yes, but as Raymond pointed out, a removable hat means a head with less hair detail to make the hat fit.

Any plans in the future for TOD and (especially) TLC Indy sculpts?

We don't like doing just "hit and runs" into a series and not doing more characters after the main one. As someone who has had his own dream of filled-out 1:6 lines for some of my favorite sci-fi shows I now get to do, I consider myself lucky I can do that for other peoples favorite series.

My personal favorite Indy movie is TOD and I know a lot of people are dying for some TLC characters. As long of your interest is there supporting them I see no reason to stop exploring more of Jones' world. :)

Can you show me an example of what we can be doing different on the neck?
Thanks!
-Rick :)
