JosephCPR - I went over some of the possible differences between our nations that could lead to a higher crime rate with or without guns.

Further - As far as not legalizing guns being more responsible than having them and correctly respecting them, it is not. That is avoidance, not taking responsibility. And personally, in my own opinion, it is opression. I do not believe that any Nation's government should have the right to tell it's people that they may not own firearms.

Anyhow, Darth Cruel. Hope you don't see this guy around anymore. Keep an eye out for a couple of weeks to make sure he's not scoping out your house. Stay safe.

Thanks, I am doing just that. Taking steps to ensure my family's safety, particularly when I can't be there.

Well, the term "opression" is quite...heavy or strong to be used so slightly in this discussion. Each individual can have a different approach to the concept, but the fact is that we, every society, need rules and laws that protect us and others, both from each others and from ourselves, because otherwise it would be an anarchy. (I dont' think that's what you meant at all).

Again...in my country (as in many other countries), and as I have said in previous posts, it is not that people are prohibited to own guns...we certainly can buy and own them, but it is not part of our culture to do so because we either don't want them or don't need them, allowing us, as I said, to forget about the gun violence issue.

I can understand it is totally different in the US, and you are the ones to decide what you want to do with your country. But from what I have read or heard, as the statistics say so, you are also one of the countries with the highest rate of gun violence. Maybe it would be interesting to ask oneself why it is so?

It is just like drugs, if you want them you can get them no matter what the laws are. Even if there are stricter rules, the people who are using guns to commit violence will be able to get a gun regardless.

Whay I am really wanting to express, and I think I am not making myself understood, is that I don't think that your solution is to illegalize guns...but to reduce criminality so that you don't have to need them anymore.

And imo Education, as in many issues, is a key piece in every society

It is strong verbiage. But I believe strongly enough in the subject to stand by my opinion that it is oppression. Maybe the people of Spain are in agreement with the ideal and therefore it is not oppression to them. But it is to me. And I am not saying that the people of Spain are wrong for supporting that ideal if they believe in it.

And I respect your opinion, but I don't see why there is oppression when you are given the right to choose :)

Anyways I have to thank you all for being so respectul throughout this discussion. I know this can be a very controverted issue and I think that, in spite of not sharing the same opinions, we have get to develop an interesting discussion. Again thank you. And I hope you and your family will always live safe enough so as not to need any kind of weapon ;)
