Yeah LOVE is a great CD. There are a few songs that lack the punch in stereo which their mono counterparts preserve. But on the whole I prefer the stereo.

i guess i don't get the mono thing. i've only really compared the Pet Sounds album mono vs stereo and to me the mono was almost unlistenable after being used to stereo.

I agree, but even with Pet Sounds the drum kick in Wouldn't It Be Nice has more "kick" in mono. But yeah, perfect microcosm for the point I am making. On the whole Pet Sounds in stereo is by far the superior IMO.

The Music's debut album. It's old but whatevs!:rock2

it could be a function of mix vs mix rather than stereo vs mono sometimes why there is a noticable strength in a certain instrument or something.

I listen to music through headphones at work a lot and when I listend to Pet Sounds I felt the mono mix was literally coming from a single speaker in the middle of my forehead. I didn't like the sensation at all. Stereo just seems so much more natural to my ears.

...Just a curious question. What kind of headphones(or earphones) do you guys use when listening to music and do you use amps?

i'm too cheap to buy fancy headphones. My nicest pair is just a $50 set of Sony's. My receivers supply plenty of power for my needs as well, so no amp here.

Oh, okay. Sony is good but if you're thinking of upgrading, definitely go for AKG. They have the best headphones IMO. I own a K701 and they're awesome when you just want to kick back, relax and listen to good music. Grado's sr80 is great too with heavy bass music but the cup pads are horrible and they tend to break easily. I managed to break mine in less than a month!:doh

Ditto prog. That is essentially how it is designed to feel and why IMO stereo is better.

I had never questioned the quality of stereo over mono before. It was a given that stereo was better. That's why I was surprised.

Now I'm annoyed that only some stuff sounds better, and I'm back to square one deciding which Beatles set to get.

a good rock song for the summer...video is a little cheesy, but the chicks are sexy

Batty, I just listened to the mono and stereo versions of Taxman and I agree, mono sounds much better. I never thought I would say that.

I think the thing that gets me the most is just how good the remastering is on both the mono and stereo sets. I've been listening to The Beatles ever since I discovered my parent's albums when I was a kid, and listening to the remasters is like hearing them for the first time.

I know I'll be buying the remaster vinyl box when it's released later this year. :)
