The season was a bit of a mess and i didn't expect it to end like that. It felt rushed and leaves a few questions. Could they have done better? Yes. But when you're not told it's the final season until well into the season, it's gonna cause some problems. But i guess it did leave things open for maybe some more later on if they want since it looked like he was in the place where all the serial killers go.

I'm glad you didn't hate it then lol. It's not one of the many endings I envisioned, and yeah, it did feel a little rushed. But as you said I'm glad it ended with some kind of optimism to Dex's fate; I'm still hopeful that we'll see a spin-off/continuation at some point.
Also, ever since it ended, I've wished they'd done this in the last scene: have Dex enter his cabin, throw his keys down, look around at his crappy place, then turn and open a hidden door panel and enter a pristine room covered in plastic. We can see the bottom half of a guy bound to a table, hear some low, muffled noises, then Dex turns and looks at the camera as he closes the door. Cut to black.
If they'd gone with that as the ending scene, I reckon the reception would've been much more positive.

I think also, looking back, that they used the brother plot too soon. If they had proper writers and if the suits didn't decide mid-season to end the show, that having the brother show up as the final season baddie would have been cool. But, you can think of so many things they could/should have done and not do, especially with season 6 (delete it) and 8 (make up your mind before shooting the cussing thing)
After it ended, i couldn't help but feel bad for Angel. Dude's been a stand up guy through the entire series and within a year he looses Maria (few people will mourn that), Dexter and Debra. All his got left is Masuka and cussing Quinn...and his hot ass sister
