I don't mind it the way it is. Keeps the flippers at bay a bit.
<<Collect to collect what you want and like, not because of an edition size.>>
Obviously you're gonna collect what you like. But you're not just buying a toy from Toys R Us for $14.99. As a collector paying hundreds of $$, knowing the edition size is a must to know how valuable the piece might become. Perhaps you're on the fence about it and the edition size makes a difference. Perhaps you're buying it solely to resell at a later time. If you're like me, one day you might decide to sell a piece to make more room or due to a loss of interest on a piece.... whatever.
The bottom line is, there is no reason to keep the edition size a mystery to the buyer; unless you want to lure buyers in and then produce thousands of editions of something at a hefty price and then laugh all the way to the bank. What buyer wants that?! I like to think that what I own is a little bit special and not as common as muck.
I'd much rather own one of 150 than one of 5,000.
I applaud HCG for declaring the edition size of each and every piece they produce! That's how it's done.

There are so many answers to this question and each one will bring up a debate.
Yes the edition size matters to some collectors that would like to know if they should order early to prevent missing out or simply because they want to know what the resell value will be depending on an edition's size or just simply put....just to know.
While the edition size won't matter to some because they know they like the piece and will get it no matter what, so size does not matter. They also don't plan on reselling for profit or for whatever reason, so the edition size could be whatever.
Valuable points on both sides, there's no wrong answer, nobody's wrong. Sorry if this has already been covered, but I didn't have time to read through 12 pages of posts. All that matters is we all smile in the end.
I can prove quickly people don't care about edition size.
People go cuckoo for hot toys and how often do they even list an edition size , let alone tell you when you preorder.
