What is exciting right now in 1/6?

So , although its a great time to be a Marvel fan (and to a lesser degree SW), its been rather dry in alot of other areas for the big manufacturers.

Whats is keeping your interest outside these over marketed areas?

For me, Middle Earth.
I stopped collecting Hot Toys a few years ago, and sold off my extensive collection. But Asmus’ Lord of the Rings and Hobbit figures still excite me. Those books (and films) still resonate with me, and I can’t ever foresee selling them.
I also still own most of Star Ace’s Harry Potter figures, but the low quality on some of the more recent releases (teen Ron, teen Hermione, big head Lucius) has dampened my enthusiasm a great deal.

Well, I've reduced my areas of interest to mostly SW OT (ANH with minor exceptions) and PT (ROTS with minor exceptions), DC Snyderverse and Star Trek TOS. So I'm pretty much set up.
However, I do see some really interesting things being done in other areas that I would probably check out if I had the money:

- Asmus' improved LOTR line looks amazing
- CooModels keeps pumping out fantastic knights and Samurai warriors in armor, as well as Crusaders
- Big Chief have some very cool licenses, like Bond, Thunderbirds and Flash Gordon, hopefully their production makes them justice
- HT has some interesting licenses, like Matrix, Alita and John Wick

But I think the most exciting new stuff is probably the semi-custom/bootleg stuff being done by small manufacturers/customisers that tackle licenses nobody is doing. Just a quick look through the brand listing at Timewalker shows a massive amount of different manufacturers doing some pretty amazing stuff.

Yes, like that Tywin Lannister. It really shows what can be done (without a license).

The most exciting thing I've seen is that specialized poseable neck/head combo that Kojun has done. I hope it translates to figures over the next 5 years.

Nothing in 1/6. Hot Toys still possesses the licenses I'm interested in and is simply doing nothing with them. I don't venture outside those licenses because I'm winding down in the hobby, not expanding.

Yeah for me it's those third party figures that are the most exciting right now. Not only is the quality getting better and better, but the prices are still really low and affordable as well.

Only problem is there's so damn many of them that it can be hard to decide which to order.

Big Chief’s Gerry Anderson license is very exciting - Thunderbirds is one of the most merchandised brands of all time, so it’s criminal we waited this long to get some decent sixth scale figures. You can’t fault any of the sculpts produced so far.

Aside from that, I’m not even a huge Star Trek fan, but the Kirk/Spock rerelease has me really excited.

Third parties figs like the Six Million Dollar Man, Coo Model knights and Samurai figs, most of what Pop Toys produces... imho, HT still makes a lot of money with their key licences, but they’ve lost any interest and their edge.

This. The Asmus Middle Earth line has some fantastic figures and is becoming my main 1/6 scale focus. I still love the franchise and I don't think I'll ever sell off any of my LOTR collectibles.

I am also interested in Xensation's Game of Thrones figures - the Tywin Lannister one that they did was excellent! Hopefully they will do some more of the 'lesser' GoT characters as I can only see ThreeZero doing the main ones.

As others have said, the smaller companies who release (official, or otherwise) more unusual subjects.

The last time HT did anything exciting for me, was the Marty / DeLorean combo. All of the subsequent vehicle teasers failed to materialise. Since then, excitement has been replaced with scepticism regarding any of their announcements, especially anything outside of the Disney banner.

That Pacino head is amazing, the flexible neck idea is so simple, it makes you wonder why they never did that from the beginning.

My guess is longevity. Seamless bodies have a tendency to tear or break down over the years. Not a huge deal on a body since you can replace those. But if it's part of the head, you're going to have a lot harder time fixing it.

I'm actually a lot more excited for unliscened stuff right now. These Chinese companies have been knocking things out of the park lately at a much lower price point.

Asmus and their Middle Earth figures have had my undo attention for some time.

I've also gone back and picked up some older figures that I had initially missed out on and updating/upgrading them to current standards. (Hot Toys Colonial Marines, for example.)

I agree the Kojun sculpt, coupled with advances in 3D scanning, could be game-changing for 1/6 in the next few years. Seriously, someone needs to work a deal with Kojun to develop and patent a technique for mass production. Ideally such a company would be a third-party supplier so they could work with HT, Sideshow, Blitzway, Asmus, QMx and others, as well as produce their own lines of licensed 1:6 (and 1:4) head sculpts. That would enable collectors to upgrade their existing figures.

Would also be nice to see more advances in 1:6 bodies. I think it's been a couple of years since the last Phicen upgrades.

The Asmus Crown Collection looks promising, but too early to tell. I also like that they are experimenting with realistic looking "real" hair vs. synthetic "Barbie-doll" hair. We'll have to see how it looks in hand.

Hot Toys is kind of like Apple. They continue to make a solid product--of which they sell a boatload--but they no longer innovate.

I know people have been talking about the neck, but is that also a seamless wrist?
