I've always wondered what Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford , Carrie Fisher, etc. Were paid for their roles in Star Wars and in future Star Wars films? I looked online but can't find anything.

I think The entire budget for Star Wars was only 17 million.
I doubt an unknown like Hamill got 650k in 1977.
I believe the three actors all only got paid 100k to do Empire.

It would be interesting to know what they actually got.
Peanuts, by today's standards, for sure.

They got paid by having their lives ruined by a greedy man with a "vision."

I'm sure they couldn't walk down the street without people stopping and saying things like "oh my god! You're the guy from starwars! Do you really have a lightsaber Luke Skywalker?"

I watched some show a few months back, it was about the lives of different famous people, the one I watched was about Mark Hamil, apparently, he had a really hard time getting acting jobs because to everyone else, he wasn't Mark Hamil, he was Luke Skywalker. The next actng job he got advertised their production as having "Luke Skywalker" in it, he just really couldn't get away from the character for a long time. He hasn't really been able to do anything big ever since then. The most recent thing he did, as far as I know, was voice actng for the joker in the Batman: Arkham Asylum (that's a video game by the way!).

Harrison Ford did well as Indiana Jones, got into several other movies since he wasn't as much of an icon as Hamil as Skywalker, but he never made it big. Well I guess you can't really say that, but without having been Indiana Jones, he would be far less succesful. (don't forget Lucas was involved with Indiana Jones too)

You look at actors like will smith, and they've done a trillion different things, but once your in a Star Wars movie, people won't take you seriously enough. Look at Hayden Christiansen (AKA Anakin in AOTC and ROTS), he was in that movie Jumper, but nothing else that I've heard about.

Whatever amount the actors in ANH were paid, in most cases I'm sure they would've been paid a lot more in their life spans for other acting jobs if they had started out being big stars in some other, slightly less iconic movie.

Yeah I wasn't aware that Harrison never made it.

Hayden simply can't act, and after merchandising and points I'm sure they still made out better than most actors in Hollywood---even in Hamill's case.

He did the voice of the joker for the 90's animated series also, and they brought back everyone from the show to do voices for the game, which is loosly based as far as I can tell on the far superior Arkham Asylum graphic novel, though thinking about that book makes me feel old because I think its about 20 years old.:lol Anyhow hes done voices for all kinds of stuff probably because his face is typecast, but hes not hurting for cash.

I dont think he even needed Indiana Jones to be a sucess, he has don so many great movies besides Star Wars & Indiana Jones.

Blade Runner
The Fugitive
Frantic
Air Force One
What Lies Beneath

Anyhow the list goes on, Harrison Ford is just awesome

Did anyone take Hayden Christiansen seriously before Star Wars?:lol but yea Jumper was lame but he has been in his share of none action movies since then.

What about Samuel Jackson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Christopher Lee and all the other actors in the all six movies that were not hurt by Star Wars, even Carrie Fisher was a successful writer/producer after doing Star Wars. And dont forget he uses a lot of stage actors ( Ian McDiarmid )that are successful in what they do, they just dont get media attention because they are not in all the big flashy hollywood films.

So really nobody has really been hurt by being in a Star Wars film, even Hayden does well.

If anything has irreversibly typecast actors its Star Trek, now a few of the are some bitter people over being typecast.:rotfl

Well besides whats been said already about Harrison Ford and others, some people may have had never had much of a career with out Star Wars.

He was The Trickster on The Flash which lead to his acclaim as the voice of the Joker on BTAS for television and films throughout the 90's, long before the Arkham Asylum video game.

All actors were given a residual percentage of the grosses as compensation for Lucas not being able to pay them more than a union scale wage similarly to how Jack Nicholson waived his salary in lieu of a percentage of the grosses from Batman and made them all wealthier than if they had contracted for a flat salary. Hamill et al are still receiving residual checks from Lucasfilm and doesn't need to work another day in his life but continues to do so out of his passion to work.

l actually thought all the acting in the new star wars films were bad.even sam jackson was bad in those films and he is a very good actor.l swear george lucas told all the actors to act bad.

It was the bad writing. When you give Sammy J stilted lines like "This party's over" without saying mutha****** ever other word he has no material to work with.

Portman is a great actor, but even she came off looking like an amateur in the prequels.

I think only Macgregor really managed to transcend the material and come off undiminished by the writing.

Back to the topic, Hamill, Ford, and Fisher wern't paid very much for Star Wars to start with. After the initial success of the film they were given financial points along with other contributors Kurtz, Mayhew, Prowse, Daniels, Baker and maybe Guinness and Cushing.

The big 3 were paid a bit more for Empire and were given more points after its release. , likewise with Jedi.
