Read both; watched both.

LOTR by a mile....the guy invented a language for the books....

Martin’s big thing was killing major characters off early and bringing them back.....like Gandalf....

GoT is a better story with lots of twists and turns. LotR is a better fantasy world full of orcs and dragons and other magical things. I wouldn’t necessarily compare the two because they are very different. It would be like comparing I Love Lucy with Madmen because they are in similar time periods. We all know Lucy would waste Madmen :lol

Well i hate the first episode, i kept falling asleep, i tried multiple times to watch it but its not for me. I find nothing appealing about the show. If you tried watching fellowship of the ring and kept falling asleep because you didnt find it remotely interesting why would you watch more. You dont like it and thats fine. I dont need to watch more of got to know its not for me..And even if i wanted too watch more of it, i would just keep falling asleep or get bored in the 1rst episode so whats the point..

All I'm saying is you can't really say(of course you can cause this is just a forum where people talk ****)if you haven't seen it all. I hate the first and second episodes with a passion and GOT is my favorite show. In fact the first episode is horrendous.

That was a super difficult decision. Came down to annoyingly characters. GOT has less annoying characters for me. But I do love LOR.

Oh my... that is... one of the worst posts you've seen under this section! My God...

Lord of the Rings all the way. GoT has no story. Take a big step back and look at the story that is being told. There isn’t one. GoT doesn’t even have a protagonist and every time you begin to think there is one they get killed off for shock value. Because of this shock-value driven nature of the show, they’ve written themselves into a corner so that’s the last season had to be so Hollywood blockbuster-esque. It’s only now, 7 seasons in were are finally getting to see what the whole point of the show is and it’s nothing we haven’t already seen before in the fantasy genre. If you seriously think GoT tells a better story than LotR, you really need to consider looking up more fantasy.

Try Elric of Melnibiné for example, which is one of my all time favourite classic fantasy sagas. If you haven’t heard of it I highly recommend you look into it.

It's not better than LOTR, but it certainly has a story.

You don't have to have one central character in order to have a story.

Okay, let’s say for the sake of argument there is an overarching narrative being told... So we have a bunch of families arguing over who deserves to sit on the throne while a horde of zombies shambles it’s way towards civilisation, throw in a couple dragons and betrayals, gratuitous nudity and profanity... Riveting stuff...

Yup, I tend to agree...

GOT is a fantasy soap opera....

LOTR is a group of novels of epic fantasy .....

Wonder which one we will still talk about and read in20 years...

I agree on some level. Game of Thrones is destined to win polls like this because it's current. In the final analysis geek consensus will be that LOTR is better. But I picked Game of Thrones anyway. Both are a bit overrated.

Books LOTR, with another season to go GOT..I wonder how the Amazon LOTR series will hold up in regards to writing, the cast, and set production when compared to very expensive GOT....best TV fantasy GOT, best films LOTR and Excalibur....period
