Wow i just hate all those fancy packaging.
Steelbooks, cardboard digipacks, those warner digibooks or i dunno whats name it is.
I take very good care of my stuffbut these tend to not pass well the test of time.
I prefer simple plastic cases that i can replace easy.

Then again i'm not the kind who expose his stuff on shelfs, i know people like to do this for
their dvds and BR...

I've had a quite a few steel books over the years, especially when I was big in to collecting DVD's but since I've moved over to Blueray, I've realised how much money I've wasted on them, not just Steel Books but just on DVD's in general. Now I only buy films I absolutely love & once there in the sale. Films get reduced so quick & Steel Books look no better than a normal Blueray once put in with the rest of your collection.

I have robocop, but only paid $10, just thought it was special cuz 20th ann or something, I could care less what packaging my dvds come in, they are all stacked away anyways.

I don't like steel books. I only have one and that is the Inglourious Basterd (steel book suits that kind of movie), but l would rather have plastic cases for my movies.

Do you have the Future Shop one or the Re-release that came out a little while ago? I actually just ordered two Steelbooks from amazon.ca last night.

I do dig 'em

Well to be honest i buy Games in steel book's when i can.

But you very rarley see steel book DVD'S i have not seen one in HMV for ages.

If you buy a movie close to release date, the Steelbook should not cost much more than a normal Blu-Ray release. And the packaging is much nicer. It is something of a gimmick, but at least its a nice gimmick. And although I would not recommend buying Steelbooks for investment purposes, there are some that will sell for quite a mark-up (Future Shop Iron Man, Amazon.de Rambo Uncut, Mirror's Edge PS3, etc...).

I'm just curious what steelbook collecting is all about. I'm not dissing it, I just want an explanation :)

Basically cause they're often really pretty, and for a movie you like, the packaging makes a nice collectible for it in much the same way as a statue does.

Course there are folks who don't give a rat's ass about the movie and are just addicts for the packaging. Those are the ones who have gone over to the dark side :devil ;)
