Ok, so in spite of the fact that I am probably going to get totally roasted over this I had to ask this question.

I remember seeing bits and pieces of Highlander in the 80's but it never interested me. After seeing all the love many members (Kurgans) here have for the film I recently decided to buy the Directors cut off ebay. After watching the whole thing I just realized why I had no interest in it in the 80's, it's a cheezy 80's flick(let the roasting begin). It was just a bad movie to me.(have mercy on me).

My sincere and heartfelt question is this: What is the appeal of this movie? Is it just that it produced a very BAD bad guy or am I missing something?

Be gentle! PLEASE!

Impossible question to ask.

To each his own kind of thing.

I love Highlander, Eli loves dudes.

Theres no accounting for taste.

Its a shame you didn't like it. It is really a cult film, you either love it or hate it, there is no in between.

It's not about an interest or no interest in the film, but one of a lack of Medieval f'un Kurgan in the Sideshow line. A line developed from the film. The real question is; Where is the f'un Medievil f'un Kurgan?

Who wants to live forever?

Sure you are not watching Highlander 2? That is the worst movie ever made, period. There is no worse.

I loved the movie when I saw it in the cinema on it's release , it was original , imaginative ,exciting and above all fun , with a suggested mythology that hinted at adventures which spanned centuries . I watched it again recently on T.V and unfortunately , it hasn't stood the test of time . Like many groundbreaking movies of this period , poor sequels and other movies using similar techniques , effects etc. have diluted the films impact resulting in the film looking like "just another cheesy 80's movie ". And a cheap looking one at that . Saying that , I still have fond memories of the film , it's just unfortunate that I'd be reluctant to watch it again .

The only thing I feel REALLY dates Highlander is the crappy canned music score. If they had someone re-score music for it and perhaps tweak a few FX and reedit a few scenes, it would shine.

I agree on everything that was said in this post. Yet in itself, it's a good action film and definitely original for its time and why it's a guilty pleasure for some.

If it came out now, it probably wouldn't have the same impact on some of us as it had when it debuted in the 80's.
