Who wants to live forever?

Sure you are not watching Highlander 2? That is the worst movie ever made, period. There is no worse.

Yeah, I'm sure. I vagely remember that one and it really sucked.

Somebody made mention of Legend, now that movie blows the socks off Highlander. It really produced the baddest looking bad guy ever. And it was a little cheezy but in a good way.

I think some movies have an appeal depends on when you first saw it. I saw Highlander as an impressionable teen and loved it then and still love it. Same thing with Legend... although some parts of Legend can be painful to watch (Jack and Lily mostly).

But I can understand not liking some popular/cult films. As a kid I always wanted to see Labrynth, yet for some reason never did until I was in highschool. And when I finally saw it I thought it sucked balls... and I've never actually sat through the whole thing.

Joseph makes 4 great points here.

1:The appeal of a movie is largely influenced on when you saw it first.

2:Highlander rocks

3:Tom Cruise makes parts of Legend blow hard!

&

4:Labrynth sux balls!!!

Yes, I think you may be right. I saw Labrynth when I was younger and I loved it then and I can still sit thru it and enjoy it today. It doesn't suck balls to me at all. :D There's probably a bunch of 80's movies that are going to be that way for me. They Live comes to mind.

I'm not really sure I understand the question or critique.

Could you elborate on "cheezy"? What scenes, characters, dialogue, themes, etc bother you? Is it simply the 80s trappings of clothing, Queen soundtrack or sfx that are irksome? "The Prize" thing always seemed silly to me - "I know everything, I am everything!"

It's certainly not among my favorites but I can see why people like it. Immortality. sword fighting. grandiose mythic story. head chopping. Sean Connery. Great villian by the always impressive Clancy Brown.

I think this may pretty much sum it up.

The dialogue and the delivery weren't what I expected. The storyline didn't do it for me either. I didn't understand "The Prize", I don't think it was really explained.

I'm an 80's child thru and thru so the "80's trappings" were the only thing I really enjoyed or I should say made it tolerable to watch. Sean is the man and always will be and the villian was villianous in every sense of the word but I couldn't understand the praise that this film has been getting so I was just curious as to what warranted such a following.

Well, to put things into perspective, there are only about 15 or so people on this entire board that are huge fans of the film.

Its just so happens that those few members are also some of the most vocal on the board.

So, really there isn't much of a following, not in numbers anyway.

I'll always be a sucker for stories about time travel and immortailty - so that's the appeal for me. Plus Clancy has so much fun with the fleshing out what could've been a one note role. It's great to watch an actor of his talent enjoy himself onscreen.

There will always be these cult movies. As said before, different tastes. Seems like the 80s produced a bunch of them though.

I'll always have a place in my heart for Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the 8th Dimension, Commando, They Live, Big Trouble in Little China. Though looked down upon, with the exception of Commando, I actually think they are good films that do what they try to do very well. Maybe the difference with those movies is that they didn't take themselves too seriously.

Considering the movie I would call 15 people a following.:D ...just kidding.

No offence taken, I have heard it all when it comes to Highlander.

It's easy man, simple math: Swords + Decapitations + Lightning + Imortals + Rob Halford-Esque Leather Freak + James Bond x Queen = AWESOME! I mean, cheese, a little, but still how don't your testicles take over the rest of your body and scream when this movie hits!?!?!?!

Had I never seen Highlander and I knew nothing about it, hearing that there is "Rob Halford-Esque Leather Freak & Queen", I would most likely stay away:lol

My sincere and heartfelt question is this: What is the appeal of this movie? Is it just that it produced a very BAD bad guy or am I missing something?

Ok, so in spite of the fact that I am probably going to get totally roasted over this I had to ask this question.

I remember seeing bits and pieces of Highlander in the 80's but it never interested me. After seeing all the love many members (Kurgans) here have for the film I recently decided to buy the Directors cut off ebay. After watching the whole thing I just realized why I had no interest in it in the 80's, it's a cheezy 80's flick(let the roasting begin). It was just a bad movie to me.(have mercy on me).

My sincere and heartfelt question is this: What is the appeal of this movie? Is it just that it produced a very BAD bad guy or am I missing something?

Be gentle! PLEASE!

Spoken from the heart. LOL! As bad as I would like to love this movie I just can't. It is so bad in every way. LOL!
