Army build at $60+ a figure? When did you win the lottery? Toybiz (for LOTR) and Hasbro (for SW) may not have been ideal but if I want to depict a certain scene for a photoshopped session at least I'm able to without having to knock over a bank. Imagine trying to pose Darth's entrance from ANH on the Tantive IV with Medicoms??? Or the battle of Helm's Deep with the (eventual---hoping) Uruk-Hai from SS---- ouch.

LOL I could never afford such an army, but what I meant (albeit poorly conveyed) was that instead of one standard orc, we could choose what kind of orc we wanted to display. I myself would prefer a Mordor orc to a Moria orc, and would also like to choose what kind of face he had. That's the main issue with orcs; there are so many different faces that everybody seems to have a favorite one. Having a couple of different portraits lets you choose what you want for the look of your collection. Some orcs I would never put on my shelf (Shagrat comes to mind, not menacing enough....), while others I would love to put up there (the snarling one in the prologue just before they show the Numenorean archers firing). But then, I suppose it would drive completionists mad, wouldn't it? lol :rotfl

Wait, I was going to be a completionist in this line..............just ignore that last thought, LOL

My preference would be a Uruk-Hai... Anything to do with the battle at Helm's Deep.

In terms of the figure I most want to see, well beyond the obvious members of the Fellowship (specifically Gimli and either/both Gandalfs) I'd really like to see a Haldir (see above reason).

Your hopes for a Haldir figure may yet be fulfilled... even though he never appeared at Helm's Deep in the book (and was therefore never killed!), as you no doubt already know, he was one of the coolest Elves from the 2 movies he appeared in and would make an excellent addition to the 12" line! And I'd be willing to bet the design team at SSC feels the same way!

Haldir would be a wonderful figure, but is LOTR ready for an armored figure already while Star Wars is going mad waiting for it? Maybe, I wouldn't know. But I would imagine Sideshow making a wizard, a woman, or a little person before that. But Haldir would be a great figure regardless, as long as he comes with two other elven warriors as well.

No doubt if Haldir IS being considered, he won't be coming anytime soon, unless it's the Fellowship version, minus the armour. (That would be a pretty nice figure too!) I could be wrong, but I don't suppose SSC will get to any of the armoured versions until they've gotten a fair number of other characters made first. I'm sure they must have plans for armoured versions of Aragorn, Théoden, Boromir, and of course Faramir!, as well as others, but it's gonna be down the road apiece. Gives us a lot to look forward to, though, doesn't it!

I hope the next announcement is Gandalf in some form or Saruman because both have faces with a great deal of character to capture in sculpted format and I think would make very impressive pieces, however, a part of me is expecting secondary players like Eomir or Theodin.

Well, I certainly hope Éomer and particularly Théoden don't strike anyone else as secondary characters. Although I do like your choices indeed, MaulFan!

Well I hate to call them secondary, it's tough describing many LOTR characters because persay, there were no main characters, there was a very intertwined mix of players all having their key parts in the whole, but I consider Legolas, Gimli, Gandalfy, Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Aragorn, Boromir, and Faramir to be the more prominent heroes, as far as screen time and character involvement, then you have characters like Theoden, Eomir, Arwen, Eowyn, and so forth that were also key players but not as prominent as the other group.

My opinion of the first tier "core group" would be "The Fellowship"...with the addition of Faramir (purposely the outsider).

All others are secondary.

There's nothing wrong with being secondary. Some of my all time favorite movie characters are second and third bananas. Like Boba Fett. My favorite LOTR villain is Gothmog, and he's way down there.

I want Gandalf the Grey before SDCC and then at SDCC I want the announcement of Frodo and Sam and also Gimli. Lets get the Fellowship done.

I'd like a GTG 1:6 and PF soon. I'd take either right now.

Dave said they are going to do the Hobbits but right now they're far off because of the body issue.

Why, oh, why? I mean, you know what you're getting into when you announce a line, right? Hobbits are crucial...not something to "wait" on. This "coming soon" policy sounds all too familar. And how long before LOTR armored characters too? Let alone armored Hobbits... that must be a real double-zinger challenge for the design team.

Waiting - blah! Wait on armored characters, wait on hobbits... wait, wait, wait... blah!

Sadly, I think with the Hobbits, it's not just coming up with a body for them, but probably a universal small body that could be applied to a Yoda or Jawa or Ewok, maybe one day Willow. However, you make a good point in that it would be foolish to enter this line and not handle hobbits, if nothing else, a LOTR figure line would be nothing without a Frodo.

Yeah, I would think when the new bodies come out that it could be applied to say Yoda or whatever from other lines.

Well it's just smart business, that's why there are discrepencies in the 1/6 lines, they have taller and shorter bodies but they couldn't do a custom body for every figure to make them truly 1/6 with one another, it'd be too costly and raise the price to us, so with the development of new small bodies, they'll apply the same logic, bodies that can be used over a gammit of lines and characters in that size range.

They need to make a short small body a medium size small body and taller small body. Make the taller small body for Gimli, medium for hobbits jawas etc and the small for Yoda.

Right that's what I think the hold up is. Sucks but I'd rather it be done as best as it can be.
