It just came over me (That's what she said!) earlier the question of when will I stop collecting?
When there isn't any space left or when I finally get my fill?
Anybody else pondered this question before or perhaps right now? Anyone out there already quit this hobby or plans to in the near forseeable future?

I don't plan on ever completely quiting but I have sold off a LOT of my collection over the past 4 months and am going to be very picky on what I get in the future. I am starting to see the $ I spent on things and not the actual item itself. Seeing 12" figs hit $250 really makes you think that things are getting out of controll.

Madden is wise. Adding up the value in your collection is a real shocker.

Since my collection is character driven and not completist driven. I would say my dream ending would be once I have a 1/4, 1/6 or 1/5, and a bust either 1:1 or LSB for all my characters that I have in my collection. But I'm pretty sure that I'm years away from the end of the line, and who knows how I'll be thinking years down the road. But for right now..."that's my story and I'm sticking to it."

Will anyone quit collecting because they feel they've gotten too old? I've always wonder if I'll still collect things when I'm elderly. By then I may switch to cats. :lol

Now thats a good question. It does kind of seem like the older I get the less interested I am in some things. I don't buy all the little goofy silly stuff anymore (like figures of the Disney characters wearing Star Wars costumes) so I wonder if in time I'll lose interest in the PF's and things like that. I HOPE I don't but who knows.

I do see that some may not stop collecting but just rather have a really strict policy on what they will be collecting. I also think that the whole "age" will be a factor. Now it makes me wonder whose the oldest boardie we have that's still collecting.

All fine points by the way.

I basically limited myself to just two lines: Predator and Iron Man.
Once these two lines stop having figures, I'll stop as well.

What led you to quitting?

money was the number 1 reason.
And I mostly collect Monsters. WHich SS has slowly gotten away from for the most part.... so it seemed like a mutual break up. :lol

Hopefully I'll be old and wrinkly when I stop collecting. :lol

So I don't get burned out on this hobby or lose all of my money, I keep a calendar of the things I want in each year along with a budget. If an item comes up that falls outside the budget, it gets put on hold until the next year.

I grab a couple of pieces here or there without getting crazy, and it helps me to appreciate what I have without looking for the next best thing.

When they pry the statues from my cold dead hands!!

well pretty much after being attacked and stabbed.my collecting days are coming to an end.. i just don't feel it anymore.heck i don't really feel much of anything ...people are shocked that i come to work..i like to stay in alot more.but my life is different..

I don't think it will ever be an age issue for me. My tastes change. I use to collect the Hasbro Star Wars 4 inch line. For nearly 10 years I bought everything. I gave that up in 2008. Now I am getting picky about the 1/6 line. I don't buy HT anymore unless it is something I must have (Capt America being one). GI Joe and Star Wars is it. Kinda glad the Indy and LOTR lines died out, otherwise I would have had to make some hard choices.

I think that if the cost of figures continues to rise then I will have to give it up eventually. Or at least cut back big time.

I'll stop when I'm done.

Godzilla - done.
Neon Genesis Evangelion - done.
Galaxy Express 999 - someone please make me good 1:6 Maetel & Emeraldas
Batman - a few books left to go
DC comics - several books, and a few Cover Girl statues

Lord of the Rings - 3 Weta enviroments left (Moria, Rivendell, Bag End), 1:6 Gimli, Merry & Pippin (99.9999999999% chance of never getting)
The Dead - 1:6 Patient Zero
G.I.Joe - until the line dies.
Star Wars - until I die.
