when someone wins the lottery, they don't get the full amount if they cash out. a lady that recently won the powerball lived in my county. she won $590.5 million and chose the cash out, only getting $370.9 million BEFORE taxes. we know that the IRS will take about 40% of her payout so she'll be left with about $200 million. the $170 million IRS got is NEVER reported or talked about as income for the US government and is surely never calculated when they come up with their tax numbers. that's one scam.

but that's NOT the kicker here. let's get back to the original $590.5 million win and the winner only getting $370.9 million.

my question is, where did the $219 million + go when she took the payout instead of payments? florida's roads are rotten beyond belief. we know it's not going there. monies made from the lottery were supposed to fund more benefits and increased budget for florida schools, but it hasn't gone there either. so who exactly IS getting that money?

When you take it in payments, there is interest made every year on it, so the amount she took cashing out would've generated that much in interest over the 26 or so years that it was invested. When you cash out, that money no longer exists. No one gets that money, but they do get all the money played during the time period that the jackpot grew. No scam.

Hope I made sense. :lol

i see, it's based on interest. but there's the issue of the other monies too. when florida pushed to get the bill approved for legal lottery, they said they would funnel the earned money back into the school systems in florida. they never did. earlier grade teachers have to spend their own monies on projects, kids have to pay for locker rentals and there's no free lunches for kids that can't afford it. it's a scam alright.

Here in Ohio they CLAIM to only have only a 6% profit margin so spreading that over the whole state, I'm sure it's not much.

Teachers spending their own money for classrooms is nothing new. Here they only $100 for classroom expenses for the whole year, so they spend their own money. Yet politicians want to say the teachers are overpaid.

The Free lunch program I thought was Federal, but ran by the state but maybe I'm wrong.
