Where to start ??

Well im trying to get 1 statue for every movie i adore as my last collection was way to over crowded and to be honest i think to many can be going too far , unless of course you have the space to display them .
I have my 1/4 darth maul for star wars , I have a palisades alien 1:1 head bust with the facehugger. And now i want to get my lord of the rings piece!.
Wel cmon peter jackson did one hell of a job and im just as big of a fan as everyone else , i just currently don't have the room monkey2or dosh) to buy all the figures and ornaments out there and haven't been looking much as lotr shopping always seems to overwhelm me!.
I'm wondering what piece to you stands out and you would recommend buying that would be recognizable as lord of the rings and wow you if you walk into the room. I'm looking for something 600 dollars or less or maybe a little more.

I would vote for the Gandalf Legendary Scale Bust. It's a very iconic piece that represents LOTR very well. Still one of my favorites from the Sideshow/Weta line is the excellent Gandalf on Shadowfax. And the brand new Aragorn PF looks to be outstanding.

I think the new Aragorn PF would also be a wonderful piece to represent LOTR. There is also the Sauron statue (though rather large) that can be picked up on ebay for around $200+. With his hand outstretched and the ring on his finger he is a sight to behold. Another really nice piece is Gandalf on Shadowfax....I also like the Frodo PF (but there were many who had complaints about that one). But I feel that those characters really represent the core of LOTR and either one would be a good representation of these wonderful movies.

that's exactly what i would do. All the SS Weta and SS pieces are good but there are certain pieces that are just

it just depends on which character does it for you. i have the WETA Sauron but I would probably go with a PF...although the choices are limited right now.

get the PF aragorn and PF lurtz. this will be just over $600. then you can pose them fighting each other and you'd also have a representation of the good and evil of LOTR.

Lurtz is utterly remarkable. I wasn't going to get anymore statues, but the idea of these two together was enough to make me take the plunge one more time. They would be a most excellent representation of LOTR.

The aragon looks like an amazing piece , from this pose he looks like he has a lightsaber .
I think this is excellent for the price , it may be this one that does it for me , although i was thinking more on the gandalf lines because i think even if someone who wasn't that familiar with the series would recognize him as a lord of the rings character.

For the relatively inexpensive pieces I would suggest Sauron, or the Frodo PF.

As for any LOTR piece available, the Ringwraith on Steed is simply unbeatable! :eek

Really? even those that basically know very little about LOTR.

Given the depth and breath of LOTR, picking just 1 is very hard. I think first you need to decide if you want good or bad, then official book based or movie based (like Lutz, which when you tell someone who he is, they are very likely to say, "who?", but say "Gandalf" and they are sure to know the name). And then is it the general overall size/wow factor thats important, or how much the statue 'says' LOTR.

To me, there are a few things that 'say' LOTR, the ring, Frodo, Gandalf, Gollum and to some extent, Sauron.

I own the Frodo PF and while some don't like, it just screams LOTR. In fact it says Tolkein pretty loud too, you got a Hobbit, the ring (a real ring on a chain in fact), sting and a skull on the ground.
The other really good option, that others have said is Gandalf. I don't own the one on shadowfax, but hear its a very nice, large and impressive statue. However, I would also consider the original Gandalf the Grey statue, while not as 'impressive' as the horse one, I can't think of much else that just says LOTR, The Hobbit or Tolkein.

So, given your $600 budget, I'd say get Frodo PF and 1 of the Gandalf's.

I own the SS/Weta Sauron and it is impressive. It's one of the few pieces that probably would not be improved upon as a PF. Not to mention it's even less likely to happen since there are so many of it floating around.

I usually gravitate toward the bad guys. To me, they're just more interesting to look at. So I would say first, get a Sauron. Its big, iconic, and just looks great. I love my Sauron. AND, lots of bang for little coinage! I have a RWOS, which I love too, but Sauron is right up there. They can be had for bout 150 on the bay.
