Yes that's it the passion is gone in the custom section, maybe we shoulder rename the star wars custom section in general customs. lol

:nono...................that section of the board has the closer knit feel between them that this section used to have, where artists helped, advised, supported each other. i really miss it because the custom section is what brought me to this board in the first place. IMO it's the oversatuaration of comission work that caused this but what can you do. there are so many talented artists doing awesome things here so i can see why someone wants a piece of the action too. im not against growth and people making money doing something they love..........it's just that with the influx of it all it took the small hometown feeling out of this section.

You forget 2 of the best customisers in this thread no :dunno

Rainman & Velvet Morning

Well I didn't forget them but for me it's something different, or maybe am I seing customization another way.

For me customization is all about reusing parts and making something looks something else. SOmething new and different.

Rainman and Velvet are sewing and sculpting so for me it's more of production pieces in limited run.

Maybe i should post in the star wars ection then :lol

I think you can look at it many different ways

Them two guys like you say are sewing and sculpting and then you have people like yourself reusing parts and building something

I still think there is plenty of talent on here to enjoy personally

I have not been on the board all that long so can't vouch for how it was 3-4 years ago but there certainly seems to be enough backing behind the likes of Rainman and VM and then the adulation you get Seb for what you do

I am not getting the problem really, I really don't see a lack of passion round here that is for sure

Well, in my defense all of the stuff I sculpt and do is for myself and I like to show my stuff, but if enough people want something I did, well, of course I would make it available. Extra cash is better than no cash.

But anyways, people rarely say something about my stuff, so I'm like spamming around XD , and Imma keep spamming until the end of times.

In summary this is what we have right now off the top of my head

Full figures
Rainman
VM
Bhead
Viva

Head Sculpts
Feng
Kai
VM
Adam
Serang

Clothing
Kato

Kitbashers
Elvis

Also not forgetting my good friend Greggo who can really turn his hands to alot of different skills!

I think we are blessed with the above and many other cool guys offering custom work in here

I really don't know what more we could possibly ask for

I think there is also a percieved lack of actual talent when it comes to customizing. A lot of folks will look at your work Seb, and be like, "Yeah, I could never even come close to that" and not bother. Or those that try to customize, well, quite honestly, a lot of their customs are pure rubbish. Just a thought.

There you go right there. This forum is now about people selling their ____ instead of people talking about how they personalized the hobby for THEMSELVES.

I don't have that much problem with people selling stuff, but then those people start getting collectors like yourself to pimp their wares and do all the dirty work for them and IMO its gone way too far.

I definitely agree that there are less and less customizers out there doing what you do, Seb. But I think it has something to do with what Prog was talking about in regards to the bar being raised. You are one of the few customizers who has continued to up the quality of your work and constantly deliver brilliant and original customs. I'm sure there are people out there working on customs, but they are hesitant to post their work for fear of it being compared to the likes of Kato, Xeno, SilentSurfer, and especially yourself :lol

But again, creating full custom figs isn't easy to do, especially at your level of quality and frequency. You're just a tough (damn near impossible) act to follow!

I think that's the point elvis is trying to make. It's about a handful of people offering custom work (again, not that there's anything wrong with that), and far fewer people doing their own customs. There's far less individualism than there used to be.

And then you compound on to all the selling, the elitism that if it isn't a $300 such and such by the newest phenom of the board that its a piece of garbage.

The idea that the same product for Joker gets redone every 6 months by someone new and that THIS ONE is now the greatest item to ever be done, etc is just silly.

The puffery.

Ok point taken but just because they are offering it doesnt mean you have to buy you can still merely enjoy the work as a custom piece

For me, custom means a one-off. If you're selling a limited edition 'run' as it were, you're not making customs. Sure each one is hand made, but all from the same parts as it were. So for me, that rules out Rainman and for the most part, Velvet. Not saying they're not fantastic artists in their own rights by any means.

But when I think of custom's I think more of 'kit-bashing'. One person, sourcing/reusing parts to make a one of a kind piece. And there's a lot of people that do that around here. But not everyone makes the hobby itself out of customizing. Normally it's the odd-balls that want very specific versions of certain characters, or just certain characters in general. So in terms of numbers, there are just fewer people that would be considered 'customizers' by definition.

Personally, I have a very small collection. And the majority of those are customs that I've put together myself in varying degrees. But I'm not going to make a full thread about 'me'. I'll post in the threads dedicated to those characters. I think that's the difference now as well. There are less boardies that specialize in customs now so there are less 'ME' threads and more 'JOKER' or 'INCEPTION' or 'HOUSE' threads.

I had a conversation with somebody earlier and during that discussion that happened to crop up. It was quite sad how true it was.

Can you imagine sharing a table with these dudes at a pub?

"Joker....slurp...Heath...bob...screen accurate...smack..."

Some part of me feels that's the only way these dudes can interact with the public, is to share their obsessions.

I dunno I think there are a lot of great guys and cool inspiring threads on this forum ??

Its a blessing we have top notch sculpts and clothes to work with. Are some silly/pointless? Maybe. Joker clothes is really pointless if you ask me, but I've posted a lot of upgrades to my Kari and Rainman stuff and the expensive Kai and Feng heads have provided a base for a few of my favorite customs.

I think the two blend together pretty good. Lots of people I like on the custom board.

i agree i have a custom thread on here it gets lots of views and no comments everyone so worried about interest threads it has taken over the custom section its still great to come on here but there is something different now i dunno what it is

I don't know if i'm right to poen this thread but i want to do it.
SO if a moderator feels free to delete it then so be it.

First sorry for my bad english so i will try to make it simple.

I joined this board 3-4 years ago, attracted by the works of Les Walker and Josh (Dark Artist).
I have a feeling that 3 years from nonw there wer a lot more creativity and passion around ssf.

Maybe i'm wrong, maybe i have chnaged or maybe that's the way it is.

I'm sadly watching the custom section falling appart.
Almost only commission stuff or interest thread.

WHere are all the customizers, i mean true customizers, thos who live trhu their passion.
Of course there are still some of them (Big man Skiman, Crimson bob, one to name a few).

So is there a new trend on the board or is overprized stuff the new trend now?

Well that's it, i'm finish for today. :lol

I wanted to say that, i feel better now :lol:panic:

Well i'm here to help people, give tips and share some stuff with them.
That is also the poit fo place like this.

Guys, Seb is just crying out for some competition! The beast customizer is out there on his own! Noone can catch him.. some of us should start trying... lol
