The reason I like my Roswell over my Big Chap is because of the amount of care put into the sculpt itself (the pose is the result of it being a replica of an actual statue) -- the subtle nuances of every detail, every rib and tube, so carefully recreated by the sculptor...with their signature character.

I love the commanding presence of my big chap, but I also wished it were sculpted with the same attention to detail. I realize it is more "sculpterly" and the general idea comes through with the Big Chap, but I almost wished it were sculpted with the same fervor and fanaticism...especially where the sternum, ribs, tail, vertebrae and other details are concerned. Luckily the paint job kinda makes up for the sculpt here since it has a very real life feel to it.

That makes total sense.
Personally what I like in my statues is less museum pose and more of it telling a story. That's why I love the new statue series from LotR and Mythos and also tend to like Dioramas.
But then, like you said, some dios can look a bit cheap and lose some appeal.

Sano alien in the house!!

It's a miracle nothing was broken, this piece truly blurs the line between collectible statue & art. It's not just the intricate details, but how cleanly sculpted & carefully painted those details are. Not to generalize but i think it's something only the japanese can achieve at this mass production level. The skull alone is an artform unfortunately i cant capture in photo properly. Move over optimus prime, this just became my #1 piece.

Can some of you alien pros take a look and see if any detail is off/wrong? I looked it over head to toe and couldnt find a single fault, but want to make sure because there is so much going on with this statue.

Here he is at his final resting place, just waiting on the sideshow classic 1/5 predator placed at the other corner to finish off the avp setup for this shelf.

You lucked out.....its all good!! Congrats on such a beautiful piece and a fortunate chance!!!:)

Yup, looks perfect!

Guess, the new improved packaging is still doing it's job well. Hopefully, future Sano pieces will be sent out in the same fashion. ;)

The packaging actually wasnt so good, they just dumped the statue inside two piece of soft styrofoam in the box, it was not secured tight like sideshow's hard styrofoam. When i got it, the shipper was half destroyed and there was no padding inside. Luckily when opened, nothing was broken.

So happy i got this perfect and have the only alien statue i ever need.

Also you have a really interesting paint job as it has the stripes on the shoulder parts....

I wonder if Sano was inspired by the recent paintjob by Silent Surfer!

although , I wonder if this is the paintmaster they used in their ads!

Looks strikingly similar in terms of the paint job...

That's good! The tubes also have the stripes -- I'm wondering if they actually gave you that paint master / Photo model -- it's worth asking -- because yours has details the normal one doesn't even have in the production version --that's kinda cool (I have a normal and it's painted beautifully of course) - but yours has the very subtle stripes on the shoulder "blades" and on the tubes...simulating in shorthand the texture giger painted on the suit...

I can't find a decent pic of the those initial photos that show the same views as your pics so I can't tell if it's the actual one or if they just painted to match -- Sano painted all of them himself from what I understand...

Maybe they were so busy in the move - they just decided to give you that one!! Ahh the fruits of patience!

i took a closer look, the stripes are definitely very visible on mine. Kinda interesting, not sure if they send me the ap but i know it's one of the last alien they sold. Because right after i ordered the website changed to out of stock. Then i waited another 1+ month for this thing to ship, so maybe sano painted with a bit more detail.

who knows :) i am just happy it didnt come broken

Actually here's a really good illustration with dimensions:
https://www.roswell.co.jp/special/sp1.html

the acrylic is approx 1/8" thick and the base is actually 2 1/8" thick squares of resin.

I have more pictures that I can upload...I love that it frames it just beautifully...

If you can do like SilentSurfer's with the light up name, that'd be cool!

hmm wonder if i should put an acrylic case over it like that, it's already in my pax display but the display is not 100% dust sealed. So dust may still build up over time. But if i put a case over it, it kinda destroys some of the display setup i wanted having alien & pred on each side with an avp dio in the middle.

The case looks very nice though!

The Sano looks awesome! But it doesn't come built or painted right? I'd go with the Warrior Maquette for that reason. I'm trying to hunt one down at the moment. Of course if I could afford it I'd have them all! :D

no of course it came built and painted! by sano himself no less.

they had a few unpainted kit too for builders/painters, but their actual release version is fully built/painted and comes in its color display box.

1999 hobby search had 1-2 sano back in stock (guess from returns or something) but i think the guys at sf just bought them out.
