Bane without the Venom is like Batman without the bat symbol. It's a key aspect of the character, and without it, just makes him an average Joe. I literally LOL'd in the theatre when Bane punched through that stone column. It was such a ridiculously absurd thing to have him do for a movie trying to take itself so seriously. That's not even addressing the issue of him walking away from the Batman fight without a mark despite getting pummeled in the face repeatedly by armored knuckles.

Like Joker's permawhite skin is a defining detail of the Joker? Eh. A character is more than a costume and a backstory. Swenson's grunting retard on venom is still much farther off than Hardy's Gotham-toppling bat-breaker without venom.

You can complain at the backstory, or the technical story, or the mask, or whatever else -- and you'd be right -- but there is simply no disputing the actions on screen.

Hardy acted and sounded more like the comic Bane than Swenson did.

Tom Hardy, definitely. And I didn't see anything in the movie to indicate he was merely a henchman. It seemed more to me that Talia was his partner. Her plan, his strategy. I don't think the movie states either way.

Some visuals and tech didn't match the comics. Though, characterization was spot-on.

Anyone who says Nolan's Bane isn't like "comic" Bane, clearly doesn't read the comics.

:rotfl

So many lulz, so little internet...

Bane has physical and mental insensitivities that make him more formidable than Bruce Wayne. He's also stonger, and better conditioned.

Venom is just a device, and if the function can be fulfilled without use of the specific prop, there will be no fundamental change in the character (as there wasn't).

The same goes for origin. The essentials are in tact. The variation is as cosmetic, and as relevant changing the administration of his drug into the mask instead of a bunch of hoses sticking out of his backcoupled with a goofy hood.

As for concrete pillars, I don't see why not. It's not like it was marble.

The movie specifically implied it was painkillers. Last time I checked, that didn't grant one the ability to punch through columns and show zero signs of physical damage. I already pointed out that SOME of the essentials were there for his story, but not all. The comparisons between Banes parallel the comparisons between movies. Both are equally off, but at opposite ends of the spectrum.

I do not see them as even remotely equal. Nolan's Bane does not match the cosmetic end of the comic character, but he does epitomize every core attribute. Schumacher's Bane has a poor cosmetic connection, and that's it.

And his knuckles are protected in that scene. Again, why is it inconceivable that his strike could not damage a concrete structure?

Schu's had the better cosmetic connection, both with the costume and his physical attributes as well as having the Venom aspect. And BTW, Nolan's Bane's knuckles aren't protected in any of the scenes, they're bare. He has a wrap for his right wrist, but it doesn't extend over the knuckles. Thank's for trying. :wave :lol

Hardys Bane was extremly intelligent. His articulation and gesticulation during the speech outside Blackgate, was superb.

Hardy encompassed the intelligence that Bane has, and built on that with the ability to manipulate the public and to gain such trust that followers would willingly give their life for him.

Yeah he doesnt look like the guy in spandex and wrestling mask but I think ill live without seeing that abomination on screen again. Not everything in the comics translates to the silver screen.

I just want to know how he eats and drinks? Does he take the mask off?
They needed to show a scene like that, where maybe you catch him just putting it back on or something and screaming in pain, just as someone comes around the wall corner.

Close enough.

And you're still hung up on the tangible venom prop. He doesn't need it.

Neither were close, but I liked the Nolan version better. I will honestly say that I liked it BETTER than the comics version. Bane always bothered me, I just never could get into him. The stupid mask, the tights, venom (steroid storytelling device).. I just never liked it.

The leap they took with the film version was much better. The character was more intimidating, and having him on a pain killer would make him almost unfeeling and able to push his body places where others could not... so I can see him punching blocks of concrete and not flinching, or taking armored hits from Batman and laughing it off.

The design was a huge win, and they retained his intelligence, which was a nice touch.... HUGE improvement to the character IMO. They took a character I hated and turned him into one that I loved...

Pretty much. I've always seen the potential for a character like this in him. It's a natural progression from what the comics would be if they couldn't rely on something as fantastical as venom serum. Nolan gets huge props for being able to tease it out, and Hardy deserves as much for being able to make that vision real. Easily the best incarnation of Bane to date.

How is Venom unrealistic? People take steroids all the time. Just say it's an experimental fast acting steroid formula, and I buy it. He could have still used it without growing 8 feet tall.

I find it more fantastical that a 5'9" guy can pick up Batman with his bare hands and punch through concrete just because of a painkiller. All of the painkillers in the world wouldn't stop broken bones and bleeding.

Conditioning was the other side of his immunity to pain. The human body is capable of a lot. Have you ever seen someone bend 1" rebar?

No nervous system could handle a steroid that does what venom did to Bane.

Yeah, pretty much :lecture
Bane never interested me much in the comics other than a few episodes of the Knightfall storyline.

This Bane was much more compelling to me.

I was wondering that too? If he were to take it off, it seemed like it would kill him. Plus was it clarified that the inhallents in the mask gave him that inhuman strength or was it from all that LoS training?

Be honest though, if Nolan made a film about turds, it'd completely change your perspective on human feces. So that doesn't mean anything. :lol
