I hate this thread.... I guess I'm racist towards ignorant people.
There are a number of reasons why Military personnel (and their families) are traditionally Republican voters. Josh pointed out one (it's in their personal financial interest). But there are several others. One is definitely that many in the military are more ideologically aligned with conservatives in the first place. Afterall, the Military is not likely to be a bastion of doves and peaceniks is it?
Another... many (not all, but a lot) voluntary military soldiers come from low-income communities and families, and the ones in rural areas are almost always Republican.
Nope. You are intolerant of ignorant peple, but in order for someone to be classified as "intolerant" you have to examine someone's behavior, which means you're not pre-judging them.I hate this thread.... I guess I'm racist towards ignorant people.

It's far more effective to question the wisdom of a particular military action on practical grounds than to come at things with an 'omigod war is bad' perspective. (Holding this opinion makes me quite 'hawkish' by San Francisco standards.)
Well said. One of the things I really don't like about the Left is how pacifistic it has become. I'm pretty far out there on the liberal end of the spectrum, yet I'm also a supporter of smart military spending and think that yes, sometimes war is the answer.

I credit my long obsession with the Holocaust. I encourage anyone who thinks military intervention is never the answer to go hang out at Auschwitz II: Birkenau for a bit and then get back to me.
Yep - war isn't always the answer - but sometimes it is. At the end of the day you need to look at the outcome of doing nothing vs going to war - all too many folk only look at the cost of war, when the cost of doing nothing may be much much higher. And sometimes you have to be prepared to go to war to avoid having to go to war - i.e. if a regime KNOWS you will go in and smite them if they take a particular action then they are much more likely to not undertake that action in the first place.
After all - war never solved anything..... except WW1, WW2, the American Civil War, The War of Independence etc etc etc. :emperor
Another thing is that McCain had visited the troops overseas before and now while running for president and well Obama had never once. I think that says a lot, actions speaks louder than words. Correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't Obama want to negotiate with terrorist if he becomes president.

Obama doesn't want to talk to anyone who is "airraiding villages and killing civilians."
"Don't you just love the smell of Napalm in the morning?"
That's all we're doing over there, in case you didn't know.
Really says something about what he thinks of our military and their efforts, huh?
