I prefer only the 1/6 scale myself. If I where to trade or sell any of my figures it would have been because the realism has gotten better - but I would not go to higher sized scale.

I'm not dumping hot toys, we always have fun together and I was thinking of popping the question, but I'm all ready married:slap

Yea, I don't see this happening at all. More and more people are being brought in as new collectors by the re-releases.

I have been selling the Hot Toys figures I feel luke warm on to fund my customs.

The fact that I could re-sell my old figures for a profit or at least break-even was justification to myself for buying anything and everything that Hot Toys released, even if I was only semi-interested in the figure. Initially I was pretty irritated with all the re-releases as it pretty much killed the secondary market. In hindsight though, this is a good thing as I have stopped blindly buying everything they push out, and allowed me to focus my collecting on figures that I really enjoy, which has also pushed me toward customs that Hot Toys won't release.

This is a hobby not investments, and I was loosing sight of that. Thank you Hot Toys for bringing me back!

I buy whatever interests me but I am at the point at the moment
where I am more interested with customs due to Hot toys re-releasing figures.
I'm quite satisfied with the versions I already have.
I find myself constantly checking the customs since there's a lot of talented artists there that are able to produce
some unique figures that will most likely will never see the light of day in a mass released production.

I mostly collect 1/6 and will and I will still collect Hot Toys....if they ever start to release stuff that I am interested in again.:rotfl

I've been doing some customs myself lately. I've really been enjoying it actually. I like making the figure myself and taking pride in my work. I think it's pretty cool to say "hey see that figure? I made it"

As the biggest Bruce Lee fan here, please don't tell me you have avoided the two amazing Enterbay HD statues ?! :horror

For shame! :D

i havent bought a ht fig in over a year but recently bought a high end custom, but its only because ht havent released anything of interest to me personally

I thought most people buy custom to fill the void for stuff that never gets released. It's not like you would dump your HT Keaton Batman and replace it with a better custom Keaton Batman, I don't think that happens very often.. You might sell some HT to fund a custom project sure, but you make it sound like people are starting to "upgrade" from HT to custom which I don't see it as the case. If anything the custom tends to get dumped once an official release is made for various reasons. (tends to be cheaper, for one) There are diehard custom collectors out there, but I think your average collector is only interested in custom if it fills a void.

So no, IMO not many people are dumping their HT for custom, only selling old stuff to fund new stuff like it always has been.

Some customs are pretty expensive. I mean if you truly want rarity I think some of those are the way to go.

Not up my alley to pay few hundred for 1/6 custom tailored outfits. That's just in the bizarre spectrum of this hobby.

I dumped HT after the re-releases started and just stayed with statues and 1:1 stuff. I can't justify paying $200 - $250 for a 1/6 figure that's not even limited. I'm into collecting for the "limited collectible" aspect which HT are definitely not. I sold / am selling most of my 1/6 save a few. No more 1/6 for me.

But trust me nobody is paying 600 bucks and up for a custom because they just want a rare item. Nobody.

They pay it for one of two reasons:

1) It looks better than any mass produced version of the character/head sculpt/outfit
2) There is no and probably will not be a mass produced version of the character

The first HT Dark Knight Joker is a "rarer" item because it was made in fewer quantities than th DX. But the DX commands the money/demand because nobody wants the first one because it looks like a piece of crap in comparison.

I get you on the re-releases for sure. Most of us don't collect for rarity though. It's just to own the coolest looking version of the character. I could care less if my coolest looking figure is 1/1 or 1/ 100 000 000

I used to think that way but then I got into the big stuff and I just couldn't go back. Well that and the fact that HT turned me off completely.

i sold most of my hot toys figures but couldn't resist buying and preordering new figures like classic predator and batman 1989

Most of my collection consists of customs.
I rarely buy full figure.
Mainly parts to build my own.

I don't have any pleasure buyin a fully made figure and display it.
I like to build them better :)
