There was a statement by SS in the Q&As that Saruman and Sauron had officially been put onto the PF project list for 2012. I believe it was then explained that, with Sauron, they would have to do something a bit different than the standard PF. I figured that they were looking at doing a PF that was closer to 1/5 scale.

Has that all been changed now? Personally, I was looking forward to having a statue of Sauron with his robes (especially after the bang-up job done on the ML).

Question : Is there any possibility of a Sauron Premium Format and/or a Saruman? I was unfortunate enough to miss all of your previous Sauron products because I just recently discovered Sideshow.

Answer : Yup. Saruman and Sauron have just officially graduated from the candidate list to the confirmed, planned, product line-up for 2012. We’ll be collaborating with Jerry Vanderstelt on Sauron, who may or may not end up “officially” in the PF classification, but will be BIG.

If it's not 1/4 scale , it's not PF. Besides, if Sauron and Saruman are PF's and are planned for 2012, that would mean SS will not have produced a single good guy PF [including any potential Fellowship members :(] over a 3+ year period.....how do you think that would fly? :gah:

How about sauron with real metal armor, $799. I assumed we were talking maquette not PF, or did I miss something. I can't see SS replicating ALL of these pieces in both lines.

When SS formally announced the PF line they stated these would include real metal armour....it is a promise they have never made good on. :(

Sounds good to me. Now as long as Eomer and MoS are on steed, i'll be happy!

While I cannot guarantee either will be on steed, I did mention to SS that a MOSoS maquette would be the perfect choice for SS to launch a rider and steed series. :)

Gonna be all kinds of epic win on that Sauron piece. The SSW one is amazing but since I don't have it anymore I gotta get this.

Then you could probably get the original one for cheaper than any new one from SS will be.

I'd hate to be holding old grail product with so much new material coming out.

Why? Because it isn't the biggest latest thing to come out in the last month?

Oh I'm sure that thing as freaking awesome as it is doesn't sell for squat. :( Another reason I'll want to get this new one is for the art print from Jerry on top of what I'm sure will be a rocking piece.

I've still got the SSW Sauron statue and it is excellent...no way I would part with it. Though it will be very hard for me not to add a SS Sauron to my collection if it is well done......esp. knowing that Jerry produced the artwork. :drool

If it has mixed media then possibly it can be called a PF. I'm simply going by SS's statement on this. Maybe SS is allowed a little breathing room by the licensor in terms of classification - I really don't know. It sounds to me that they are working on something that has the earmarks of a PF but isn't quite 1/4. (?)

Other than the statement about Saruman and Sauron in 2012, I haven't heard anything else about other characters so I can't comment on what they might do. Who would have thought we would see a ML, followed by Gollum, followed by a Mordor Orc then followed by (hopefully) the RWOS? Personally, I hope to see a member of the Fellowship placed in with offerings for 2012. (I'm also ready for a preview/hint of what baddies are coming in the MQ line.)

I know. It's a very vague answer. SS has also at different times said they cannot do certain characters because they would simply be too large at 1/4 scale so it is my belief there really isn't alot of wiggle room where PF's and scale are concerned.
And I don't believe the addition of mixed media is enough to qualify an item as PF as SS has incorporated mixed media within both the LOTR diorama and LSB lines.

No, nothing about any specific characters, but SS did answer one of my questions about 9 month's ago and if they follow through it appears as though the trends of villain PF's and good guy maquettes may be reversing shortly. :lecture

Question : The conceptual art for your new LOTR maquettes looks amazing, but I couldn’t help but notice there were no “bad guys” shown. Can we expect a full range of baddies as well?…AND…Sideshow, most LOTR collectors are thrilled by this announcement concerning your new 1/6th scale maquette line. But they are also concerned that some of your resources will be diverted away from the Premium Format, diorama or Legendary Scale Bust lines as a result. Would you care to comment on these concerns? -AND- Will this new LOR maquette line divert resources from your other LOTR lines, lines which at the moment appear to be on life support?

Answer : We are well into sculpture or beyond for the first six or so LOTR statues already. The design and development process for that range is independent of our efforts for the Premium Format line (different coordinators, and typically different sculpture talents). Suspiciously, the statue line is currently focused on heroes, and the PF line is focused on villains – perhaps that will reverse in the next year or so. While the new statue line isn’t technically diverting resources from the LSB line, that line is currently inactive while we seek some new design and product planning wisdom.

Please oh please don't make any PF's that aren't very close to 1/4 scale. Continuity and scale to the other pieces is one of the most important considerations for me for the PF license.

I hope we see Eomer after Arwen and Boromir.

That is truly one character that has been so overlooked.

Agreed. At least we know he, and Faramir [another truly overlooked character IMO], are on the way. :yess:

Yeah, we need to get both of those IMO. Eomer on Steed is truly a must. When it does I want something like this.

I have the Eomer on Firefoot statue from a S&F project of a few years ago. It's 1/6 scale and based on the very same screencaps. I haven't had it painted yet and if SS does an Eomer on Firefoot maquette I won't bother getting it painted.

Yeah, I remember them doing that. I just really love this sequence and really want an official piece made from that scene.

I'm glad you're one of the lucky few that got their Eomer! Alot didn't. Fortunately i didn't pay for the paintjob, and Markus, who has done the Fountain Guard and Mouth of Sauron statues, says the sculpt itself isn't the best.
Really hoping SS do one of him on horseback

Yeah, I do feel fortunate that I even got mine at all, and I know Markus had all sorts of problems with an oily substance seeping from the statue once the base coat was applied. I think it's for reasons like this I'm finished with custom projects. Other than Markus [sculptor] and Sara [painter] there are very few people out there who are actually dependable.

Bernd Smolinski [Classic Monsters] currently has 5 busts [Skully, Sharku, Smeagol, Orc Ambusher, and Denethor] and 1 statue [Fountain Guard] of mine, all of which have been paid for in full, including the shipping, and not only can't I get him to ship them to me, I can't even get him to respond to my emails....and he's had some of these in his possession for almost 3 years! :banghead

Yeah, there's alot that was done, but fortunately i only got Faramir (great statue that fits in perfectly with the SSW statues) and paid half of Eomer. I'm due to get the fountain guard and MoS on steed, but at the moment could mostly do with the money back and hope SS do these later on.

I know what you mean. Don't get me wrong, Markus has done a great job on both these statues, but by the time you factor in the statue cost, plus the additional expense of a custom paint-up we're talking about some serious coin. Significantly more than what we'd ever pay through SS. Now I don't know if we'll ever see a Gondorian FG by SS, but we do know a MOS is already in the prod. process....and if he is on his steed I think I'm going to be kicking myself. :gah:

Voted balrog too.

It needs to be big..like 24" big which is big enough too look good displayed in this collection even though not strictly 1/6 scaled to the movies.
