why are artist proof worth so much more?

SS is auctioning off a bunch artist proof on ebay, as far as i can tell some of them are exactly the same as the regular statues. But they are going for 8-12x more than the market price. Why?

I just bought an artist proof of the new HCG Rocky 1/6 statue, limited to just 20, I paid only $100 on ebay, and that's less then the $150 for the regular 500 piece edition, so I guess it just depends on the demand for a particular statue. Rocky doesn't carry a huge interest anymore

Just like everything else, supply vs demand.

AP can have an affect ranging from nill to tripling or more the price of something.
