Why did people puke over the arm rip scene in 127 Hours?

I love saving private ryan. I think it does a great job of paying tribute to those who fought in WW2.

Agreed. I think war can be glossed over in most films, but this one really hit a reality button IMO.

Indeed! War is hell. Talk with any vet long enough and if they want to tell you they will explain it. Especially any vet who is still alive that was on the beaches that day. I've seen more than one documentary that said this movie hit it right on the head.

You have it wrong Ms. Ween.

That movie has such an intense opening. I dont watch it and go "LOLOZZZ OMG HIZ ARM IZ GONE!"

No, it's to show just how god awful war is. To show what these men went through on that day, how incredibly intense, violent, and horrible that day was to many. That was the point of the scene. That's why it's amazing. It's far....FAR from crap.

No, I don't. You misunderstand what I'm saying. You love violent films. You've talked about them quite a bit. I don't. I avoid most of them.

I don't think it's crap either. No one is saying SPR is crap.

Yeah but the violence in movies such as Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List is way different then the violence in Predator, Rambo, ect...

You dont cheer when you see hundreds of Amercians getting mowed down in a situation that actually happened.

And Batfreak said it was crap. "Who watches that crap?" That's supposed to mean...? Uh...

I give up. :lol

I dont even know why you quoted me...:lol

Batfreak was asking why people watched that crap...as if Saving Private Ryan was made for people who love gore. I'm not bothered that he was affected by it, that means it worked. That means it had an impact.

But it aint crap. It aint Saw. It's a realisitic look on war. Some people were bothered by it, others were moved by it.....you were bothered by it, and that's fine.

Just watched the arm amputation scene from 127 Hours. I mean, if you suspend disbelief and get into it yeah it's intense and disturbing. And Franco did a really good job of selling it. But if you just watch it and have the attitude that it's all fake yeah it's not that big of a deal. Thought the editing/sound cues were good too. :lol

Just got back from seeing the film...and yeah, that scene wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. Before I went to see it today, I read some story that said 3 people recently had seizures because of that scene...really? Seizures? :lol

Excellent film though.

Watched the scene on youtube. Wasnt bad at all, seen much worse.
But after reading about the RL experience of this dude, I think I'll have to check the movie out.

actually that is me dressed as rambo in my avatar from 2 halloweens ago lol.

say what you will, rambo is also an american hero and icon and he does pretty much the same things any US soldier would do. also he fought in real wars as well unless you dont count vietnam, 80's afghanistan and burma as real wars. i understand he is fictional character but the ideas he fought for are real. SPR was to me just awful. sure its good to see that to understand the gravity of those guys situation, but to me its far too disturbing to watch. now if they somehow got vin diesel go around pullin a one man army routine like arnold or something that would have made the scene 10 times better.:) i still cant believe vin diesel was in that lol.

Wait, wait, wait, wait... wait... wait... wait. Wait.
You're saying, that a childish, shoot-em-up, fictional, so-far-removed-from-reality, one-man-army, fictional, not-real, made-up, fictional, movie character is just as much of an American hero and icon as real, were-there, American WWII soldiers? Seriously? Because the ideas and real-wars he fought in... in the movies... were for real?

Sometimes, the world makes me :monkey2

Just watched the film, pretty good.
Not worth the watch though I think.

The amputation scene was pretty realistic although not that frightening.
