Everybody in these forums is already part of a subculture that for the most part general society thinks of as strange, so why make fun of anybody here whether they collect Full Size, Minis, or 1/6th figs that may or may not be what you are into? Or bash a company for their decision to make busts rather than full sized statues. I can only speak for myself but I come here to not have to feel like an outsider for my joy of collecting. Why do you come here???

I mostly come to ridicule others, mostly. Though I should note that your question of "why do you come here???" is not the same as the question "why is there such elitism in 'Collectibles Forums'"

One is an question regarding the poster's personal motivations, the other is a more sociological-type inquiry.

:lol:lol I see what you did there!

King Nerd Syndrome

Also people want to think that they have or are into are the best and what everyone else has or does is inferior.

I agree that criticism of a person's preferences is pointless and bad for moral. However, varying opinions can make for interesting conversation and can broaden minds that are open.

Because when you are on the bottom of the social heap you want others to be beneath you. :lol It's human nature.

That's what I meant, I was just playing off the joke about others already making fun of us.

There was a bit of snobbery alright in the first Hot Toys T-800 thread that was posted before the official one. I was debating that the 'low end' NECA 12" figure was better than the Sideshow one from a few years ago and a few people just wouldn't have that by simple virtue of the NECA being 'low end'....regardless of the fact that the sculpt was more accurate to Schwarzennegger. Not a superposeable, 'real' clothes figure not worth considering was their attitude.

Eh. I liked the SS T-800 sculpt. I just popped it onto the original HT T-800 body and I have an awesome police station shootout Terminator fig. Good enough for me to pass on the HT T2 fig, although it does look pretty sweet. Congrats to all who are getting one.

I think everyone has a right to state their opinion on what people collect or what they like or don't like. When it gets to the point of "That's crap" or "Anyone who collects this is an idiot" that's what I don't agree with.

I've said it before but just because you don't like something, that doesn't make it crap or the person who does like it and collect it, not worthy of collecting.

Yeah I have agree with you on that... I cant stand it when companies make busts instead of FS.:rotfl

you can have an opinion on something, but to say that anybody that collects 1/6 or mini bust or barbies for that matter are losers is just harsh. Imagine someone buying there first collectible being all excited and then they happen on the nerd boards and read all the generalization bashing of said collectible. Not something to motivate a new collector.

in these forums they are sort of linked as one negative post seems to snowball, without concern for anybody's feelings at all

Exactly, cause for the record we are all lumped in one category NERDS! You can pretty it up all you want, say I am a collector, unless you have some Picasso's and Miro's in your house, you are a NERD in the publics eye
