Why put a blue X over the box info on an exchange?

Why do my SSC exchanges come back with a green X through the shipping box text? Seems like this sort of mark identifies a piece as having been exchanged, which may be the point. But if I turn around and sell it some day, wouldn't that hurt my resell?

Maybe it's just me, but I would email or call sideshow.

Why should Sideshow be concerned about your need to resell? :dunno

Perhaps better wording would be, on a high end collectible (and packaging adds to a collectibles value over time when it is kept), why purposely mark up a box when that might devalue or reduce collectibility (even if slightly) the item as a whole over time.

Sounds a lot better to me

it would be great if you can show the picture of that mark, I'm curious how big that mark is.

Here ya go. They did this on both sides. I bought a Leo EX someone had to exchange and they did the same thing to that one's box.

If I didn't know this was due to the item being exchanged, my first impression would be "what's wrong with this one that it has huge X's on it?"

Re: Why put a green X over the box info on an exchange?

To be honestly, it looks fine to me because it just looks like low numbered mark but only with blue marker. Not too ugly for me but I understand what you mean, asking ss about this wouldn't hurt too.

Thanks for posting pic :wink1:

Re: Why put a green X over the box info on an exchange?

I've gotten that on unnumbered pieces, and I think sample pieces.

I've read SSC buys extra stock on items and when exchanges happen, they will write your original number on the unnumbered piece, maintaining the limited edition. Perhaps the X isn't an exchange thing, but how they know the unnumbered pieces from the rest in the warehouse.

Given it's just the shipper, not only does it not detract from the value, but the "X" would make it more "authentically" a piece from Sideshow and not a knockoff from some sweatshop. Don't you think? :huh

Re: Why put a green X over the box info on an exchange?

we've also got some with an X... don't really think it means something unless it's something for the people in the warehouse :)
don't really see why this would decrease the statue value ??

Srsly? You're mad because a X is on the shipper? I thought you were talking about the product box, not the shipper. Screw em. Those come all marked up from being shipped and would not affect any aftermarket value.

Re: Why put a green X over the box info on an exchange?

If the X affects the aftermarket value, then wouldn't the tape, address label and customs info also have an impact?

It's brown corrugated cardboard. It has no real value unless it also doubles as the item's packaging, like with the Tremors Graboid maquette, or the Blackbeard PF.

Give it no further thought.

Why should Sideshow be concerned about your need to resell? :dunno

Because Sideshow is in the business of making in-demand collectables, and their business thrives on things eventually being sought after and valuable?

With that said, I don't think anyone in the aftermarket would care about a green X.

Re: Why put a green X over the box info on an exchange?

I would think that dent in the box would be worse than the X.
