Will the prices of the statues we collect today appreciate significantly in value?

2 many Gr8 Statues!!!
Why or why not? I really have no idea. Will the demand for statues greatly increase in the future? Nah? I do hope my statues will be worth thousands someday though.

Will people stop worrying about how much their little collectible is worth and collect because they enjoy it?

Nah.

I don't think so. My theory is that all this stuff will depreciate in value some day when interest in this sector of the hobby dies out. I enjoy it because I appreciate the subject matter.

While I hope they would....I dont really care. I cant imagine ever wanting to sell any of my statues/hot toys.

Why do people keep worrying about this so much?? If you wanna invest in something, invest in gold. It's just as appealing to the eye as a statue and it is guaranteed to rise in value.

amen! :lecture

It will depend on what it it is and what comes out better or rarer than the earlier stuff...Unless there is a better DR Doom PF then it will not depreciate for ex and if it does it wont be by much

Nope. The bubble will eventually burst, and most will sell for a fraction of their original retail.

When the bubble bursts, who will buy:dunno?

...beenie babies anyone? (weak comparison, but hey:dunno)
maybe a comparison to comic collecting. Quality and rarity always > than quantity and crap/speculation.

on another note who cares, live for today, for who knows what tomorrow brings...

I'm surprised at some of the stuff people do buy.

WTF would buy a Anakin Skywalker Lightsaber Lamp?

Too many people buy with the thought of reselling, and when there is a steady supply, the value will always stay in check. When enough collectors love a piece enough to keep it in their collections, supply dwindles and fewer pieces are available to those who missed out and are forced to the secondary market. You have to start offering more and more money to convince people to part with a cherished item. But with so many people buying to sell, supply will keep up with demand and ironically the value will not skyrocket. It's the pieces that collectors buy to keep (and then refuse to sell) that become valuable.

People bought Joker PFs thinking that they'll be worth a fortune on eBay. Now there are a huge amount being produced and hundreds of them will flood the secondary market for years to come. The more flippers/resellers hop on board, the greater the guaranteed eBay supply and the lower the value. The sellers start competing with each to have the more attractive price and it becomes a buyer's market. Ten people will put a $300 piece up for $1000, and nobody bites. Then a seller puts it up for $25 over cost and the market price is set. Supply outweighs demand and the prices are kept low. It's an ironic thing to witness.

Then I will be the first to buy even more! :yess:
Im enjoying every single one. Its not an investment for me, its a hobby.

I don't think much will change. If products keep improving and get better, people would rather buy the new one then pay more for the old. But I think there are some pieces that will hold value a little longer then others and this will come down to edition size and if the people who have them are willing to sell.
Very rarely even today we see a piece even double in price.
I think the new Lsf line with no edition size will really suffer on the secondary market. But I'm just happy buying the pieces I like and unless I'm put in a situation where I need to sell. My statues are staying right where they are.

There are collectors out there who buy two of every figure. Sometimes more. Those are the people that keep the secondary market alive along with flippers.
HT Leonidas was $150 when it came out. Some people brought two of him for keepsake. Today he's going for $500+ and the people who invested in a second figure are the ones profiting.
As a newcomer to 1/6 im constantly shocked at how much people are willing to pay for a figure.

I think what is wy more likely is that newer better versions of things come along.

Either the same company re-releasing things or a new company getting the license and putting out their own version.

Look at Enterbay with the Terminator license now....

Even if Sideshow don't try to annoy their own fans, eventually their license rights will expire and some new company will step in and release their version of things. And no one is going to pay a huge amount for some old statue (or figure) when there is a newer, most likely better version on the market.
